Appendix B
Using Oracle’s SQL*Plus Tool
448
Oracle 10g is a very powerful and extremely complex database system. Oracle’s documentation alone
runs longer than 50,000 pages! This section shows you enough to be able to run the examples in the
book.
You can use a number of tools to write SQL queries in the Oracle system, namely the SQL*Plus tool.
First, launch SQL*Plus by selecting Start ➪ Programs ➪ Oracle ➪ OraDB10g_home1 ➪ Application
Development. You should see the window shown in Figure B-85:
Type system in the User Name field and the password you selected during installation in the Password
field. Click OK and you should be logged in to the Film Club database, which is the only database on the
system. When you log in to the SQL*Plus command line tool, you should see a screen similar to Figure
B-86. It’s all ready and waiting for you to enter some SQL code.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
