<strong>The</strong> chariot is the vehicle which carries Jupiter on his Divine mission. It is a<br />

symbol <strong>of</strong> authority, signifying his status in the planetary hierarchy and<br />

special importance in the kingdom <strong>of</strong> Ihe gods. It is complementary to the<br />

mace that he holds. <strong>The</strong> chariot also emphasizes his dynamism. Nitighosha,<br />

the name <strong>of</strong> his chariot, reveals the special quality <strong>of</strong> the vehicle. 'Niti'<br />

means propriety as well as the science <strong>of</strong> morality, ethics and moral<br />

philosophy. 'Ghosha' means thunder as well as proclamation. <strong>The</strong> chariot <strong>of</strong><br />

Jupiter announces the arrival <strong>of</strong> righteousness personified. It thunderously<br />

announces the law and code <strong>of</strong> truth and right action. <strong>The</strong>, eight pale horses<br />

yoked to the chariot represent the eight perfections in latency.<br />

VASHITWA <strong>The</strong> capacity to suppress one's desires and passions.<br />
