Chapter 6<br />

NON-ROUTINE DOSIMETRY<br />

6.1. Monitoring of Workers on Extended Temporary Duty (TDY):<br />

6.1.1. TDY for Periods of 90 Days or less:<br />

6.1.1.1. Individuals going TDY for 90 days or less will take their <strong>dosime</strong>ter and a designated transit<br />

control <strong>dosime</strong>ter with them.<br />

6.1.1.2. Upon return from TDY, the individual will ensure the <strong>dosime</strong>ter is turned in for processing<br />

at the next exchange interval. In no instances will a <strong>dosime</strong>ter be kept for periods longer than<br />

6 months.<br />

6.1.2. TDY for Periods Exceeding 90 Days:<br />

6.1.2.1. TDY Locations Having an Established Dosimetry Program: While TDY to a location<br />

with an established <strong>dosime</strong>try program, individuals will obtain necessary <strong>dosime</strong>try at the TDY<br />

location. If <strong>dosime</strong>try support is being provided by other than IERA/SDRD, the individual is<br />

responsible for ensuring copies of their <strong>dosime</strong>try results are provided to IERA/SDRD for inclusion<br />

in the MRER.<br />

6.1.2.2. TDY Locations Not Having an Established Dosimetry Program: Individuals on TDY for<br />

periods of greater than 90 days to locations without an established <strong>dosime</strong>try program will receive<br />

<strong>dosime</strong>try support from their sponsoring organization for the duration of the TDY assignment.<br />

Support will necessitate providing <strong>dosime</strong>try controls and ensuring exchanges are made in a<br />

timely fashion. Gaining organizations anticipating ongoing requirements of this nature are<br />

encouraged to establish their own <strong>dosime</strong>try programs.<br />

6.2. Members or Employees of Other Services or Federal Agencies Who Are Occupati onally<br />

Exposed to Ionizing Radiation From Air Force Operations:<br />

6.2.1. Individuals employed by other military services or other Federal agencies may on occasion be<br />

occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation while working under Air Force jurisdiction. Examples<br />

of circumstances where this could occur include cooperative staffing of military medical treatment<br />

facilities, joint operations, etc.<br />

6.2.2. Individuals having a primary employer other than the US Air Force who are occupationally<br />

exposed under Air Force jurisdiction (i.e., while working with radiation sources subject to licensing,<br />

permitting, or control of the Air Force) shall be enrolled in the Air Force personnel <strong>dosime</strong>try system<br />

and shall utilize Air Force-provided personnel monitoring.<br />

6.2.3. The Air Force Master Radiation Exposure Registry (MRER) will maintain <strong>dosime</strong>try results<br />

for individuals in circumstances of paragraph 6.2.2. above. In addition, <strong>dosime</strong>try results for these<br />

individuals will be reported to the individual’s primary employer using procedures established<br />

between the Air Force Center for Radiation Dosimetry and the counterpart organization in the other<br />

Federal agency.<br />

6.2.4. The Air Force Center for Radiation Dosimetry will establish procedures for routinely requesting<br />

and obtaining <strong>dosime</strong>try results from the US Army and US Navy personnel <strong>dosime</strong>try centers for
