SECTION A4.B. <strong>THE</strong> RISK CONTROL OPTIONS MATRIX<br />

A4.B.1. The sample risk control options matrix, illustrated at Figure A4.1, is designed to develop a<br />

detailed and comprehensive list of risk control options. These options are listed in priority order of<br />

preference, all things being equal, therefore start at the top and consider each option in turn. Add those<br />

controls that appear suitable and practical to a list of potential options. Examples of each control option<br />

are suggested in Figure A4.2. Notice that many of the options may be applied at more than one level. For<br />

example, the training option may be applied to operators, supervisors, more senior leaders, or staff<br />

personnel.<br />
