. A Wreckage Locator File with all known aircraft <strong>and</strong><br />

vessel wreckage sites within the region which might be<br />

mistaken for SAR targets. Used with the wreckage locator<br />

chart, this file contains data such as geographical location,<br />

wreckage description, including type <strong>and</strong> identification of the<br />

craft, color, <strong>and</strong> distinctive markings, <strong>and</strong> information such<br />

as prior SAR case number <strong>and</strong> pilot/operator name. If<br />

photographs of a wreck are available, they should also be<br />

included, dated <strong>and</strong> marked with an arrow indicating true<br />

north.<br />

c. An Experimental File with information acquired from<br />

previous SAR cases or local knowledge, possibly of use in<br />

future cases. The file may contain such information as<br />

peculiarities of water currents, effects of local weather on<br />

sighting ranges <strong>and</strong> sweep widths, peculiarities of survival<br />

craft drift in certain areas, <strong>and</strong> charts containing plotted<br />

historical drift tracks of SAR cases.<br />

d. A Missing/Stolen Craft File with data on unlocated<br />

craft reported missing, overdue, or stolen. Data are entered<br />

after a mission has been suspended, or when received if no<br />

mission is prosecuted. This file may include craft type <strong>and</strong><br />

identification, color <strong>and</strong> distinctive markings, owner/operator<br />

name, flight or float plan, date of mission suspension, case<br />

number, <strong>and</strong> other appropriate facts. Periodic review keeps<br />

SAR personnel updated on missing craft.<br />

e. An Advanced SAR Staging Base Data File listing all<br />

bases within the SRR suitable for an advanced SAR staging<br />

base. Information in the file should include communications,<br />

operating hours, instrument l<strong>and</strong>ing systems, terrain<br />

limitations, runway lengths <strong>and</strong> weight limits, ramp capacity,<br />

refueling capacity, maintenance <strong>and</strong> ground support, SAR crew<br />

briefing space, moorage or docking facilities, transient<br />

housing capacity, <strong>and</strong> food-serving capacity.<br />
