Military Assistance to Safety <strong>and</strong> Traffic (MAST): An Army <strong>and</strong> Air Force<br />

program to assist in serious civilian medical emergencies by providing<br />

transportation.<br />

Military Direct Access Radar Channel (M-DARC): Computerized radar<br />

tracking system operated by the 6521st Test Squadron at Edwards AFB, CA.<br />

Records primary <strong>and</strong> secondary radar data from 10 radar sensors located<br />

in south central California. Recorded data is retained for 30 days.<br />

Minimax Solution: A means of obtaining datum <strong>and</strong> drift error, when one<br />

or more drift variables cannot be accurately determined, by calculating<br />

a minimum <strong>and</strong> maximum drift.<br />

<strong>National</strong> Track Analysis Program (NTAP): An FAA system for retrieval of<br />

computer-stored radar data to locate a missing aircraft's last position.<br />

NAVAREA Warning: Long-range warning broadcasts issued by an area<br />

coordinator of the World-Wide Navigational Warning Service for the<br />

associated area. Broadcast is made with sufficient power to cover the<br />

entire area for which the area coordinator is responsible.<br />

NAVTEX: Direct printing telegraphy system for transmission of navigation<br />

<strong>and</strong> meteorological warnings <strong>and</strong> urgent information to ships.<br />

Non-Beacon Alert: Alert determined to result from other than a beacon<br />

activation.<br />

On Scene: The search area or the actual distress site.<br />

On Scene Comm<strong>and</strong>er (OSC): Comm<strong>and</strong>er of an SRU assigned to coordinate SAR<br />

operations within a specified search area.<br />
