they encountered or witnessed. This condition could result in a state<br />

of uncontrollable shock.<br />

B. Specialized psychotrauma teams are available from several<br />

agencies. Such teams may be used to counsel survivors, families, <strong>and</strong><br />

SRU personnel following a catastrophic SAR incident. The <strong>Navy</strong> SPRINT<br />

team with counseling professionals, such as psychologists <strong>and</strong> chaplains,<br />

has been used to counsel personnel following an SRU crash. Such<br />

counseling should not be overlooked, especially if an SRU crew member<br />

has perished during a rescue attempt.<br />

925 Survivor Debriefing<br />

A. Survivor Debriefing Kit. Just as survival often depends on<br />

availability of a survival kit, successful debriefing depends on<br />

availability <strong>and</strong> effective use of a survivor debriefing kit. The kit<br />

should contain debriefing forms for the gathering of data important for<br />

future SAR planning. The form should guide the questioner through a<br />

logical <strong>and</strong> orderly set of questions without omitting essential<br />

information, <strong>and</strong> provide an on scene record of information that might be<br />

forgotten before the mission is completed <strong>and</strong> documented. Forms should<br />

be short <strong>and</strong> self-explanatory, <strong>and</strong> should be filed in the SAR mission<br />

documentation folder.<br />

B. Debriefing Topics. Survivors should be debriefed about:<br />

1. Other survivor or occupant information. The survivor should<br />

first be asked about other survivors, <strong>and</strong> leads as to their<br />

whereabouts. Additional information, such as bailout altitude<br />
