C. The conduct of SAR operations, including:<br />

1. Responsibilities of SAR personnel.<br />

2. Joint SAR operations with adjacent national <strong>and</strong> foreign areas.<br />

3. Arrangements for refueling <strong>and</strong> servicing of aircraft, vessels,<br />

<strong>and</strong> vehicles engaged in SAR.<br />

4. Procedures for assisting ditching aircraft.<br />

5. Contingency plans for equipment deployment.<br />

6. Coordination with accident investigation boards, medical<br />

teams, aircraft operators, <strong>and</strong> merchant vessel agents.<br />

7. Criteria, policies, <strong>and</strong> procedures for suspension of SAR<br />

cases.<br />

D. The manner of gathering essential information, including<br />

Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), notices to mariners, weather <strong>and</strong><br />

oceanographic data, <strong>and</strong> distressed craft's movement data, along with<br />

records <strong>and</strong> photographs of all unremoved <strong>and</strong> unobliterated aircraft or<br />

vessel wreckage. These records may be maintained in the RCC instead of<br />

the SAR plan.<br />

E. The establishment of training programs <strong>and</strong> SAR personnel<br />

orientation visits to RCCs <strong>and</strong> SAR facilities.<br />

F. The recording of information on such subjects as SAR system<br />

efficiency, SAR mission critiques, emergency procedures used by airmen<br />

<strong>and</strong> mariners, emergency <strong>and</strong> survival equipment carried by vessels <strong>and</strong><br />

aircraft, <strong>and</strong> SAR facility improvement.<br />

130 SAR MISSION ORGANIZATION<br />

The SAR Coordinator m<strong>and</strong>ates SAR mission organization, assigning<br />

the responsibilities <strong>and</strong> interrelationships of the SMC, OSC, <strong>and</strong> SRUs<br />

for any mission. Figure 1-3 shows the typical SAR mission organization.
