A. <strong>Search</strong> Radars that may be available for SAR missions include<br />

Surface Vessel Radars (SVRs), Forward-Looking Airborne Radars (FLARs),<br />

<strong>and</strong> Side-Looking Airborne Radars (SLARs).<br />

1. Because of horizon distance limitations, which depend upon<br />

antenna height <strong>and</strong> target freeboard, SVRs rarely perform<br />

better than a visual lookout (especially if the lookout is<br />

equipped with stabilized binoculars) in clear<br />
