48 Academic Services and Policies<br />
• Copying from another student during an examination or<br />
allowing another student to copy your work.<br />
• Unauthorized collaboration on a take-home assignment or<br />
examination.<br />
• Using illegal notes during a closed-book examination.<br />
• Taking an examination for another student, or asking or<br />
allowing another student to take an examination for you.<br />
• Changing a graded exam and returning it for more credit.<br />
• Submitting substantial portions of the same paper for more<br />
than one course without informing each instructor.<br />
• Preparing answers or writing notes in a blue book (exam<br />
booklet) before an examination.<br />
• Allowing others to research and write assigned papers or do<br />
assigned projects, including the use of commercial term paper<br />
services.<br />
• Giving assistance to acts of academic misconduct or<br />
dishonesty.<br />
• Fabricating data (all or in part).<br />
• Submitting someone else's work as your own.<br />
• Unauthorized use during an examination of any electronic<br />
devices, such as cell phones, palm pilots, computers, or other<br />
technologies to send or retrieve information.<br />
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person's ideas,<br />
research, or writings as your own. Examples of plagiarism include,<br />
but are not limited to the following:<br />
• Copying another person's actual words without the use of<br />
quotation marks and citations.<br />
• Presenting another person's ideas or theories in your own<br />
words without acknowledging the source.<br />
• Using information that is not common knowledge without<br />
acknowledging the source.<br />
• Failing to acknowledge collaborators on assignments.<br />
• Purchasing or downloading term papers online.<br />
• Paraphrasing or copying information from the Internet without<br />
citing the source.<br />
• "Cutting and pasting" from various sources without proper<br />
attribution.<br />
Academic Standards<br />
Students must have the retention indices of 1.5 for the first four<br />
courses or 12 attempted credits, of 1.75 for the first eight courses<br />
or 24 attempted credits, and of 2.0 for 25 or more attempted<br />
credits, and a 2.0 semester index thereafter.<br />

Total number of credits attempted include <strong>Lehman</strong> <strong>College</strong> F,<br />
FIN, J, W, WF, WN, WU, PEN, ABS, P, NC, Y, R, or their<br />
equivalents, and all transfer credits.<br />
A student who does not meet the required minimum semester or<br />
cumulative indices or whose cumulative Grade Point Index at the<br />
<strong>College</strong> falls below 2.0 is automatically placed on probation.<br />
During this probationary period, a student maintains his/her<br />
academic standing with the <strong>College</strong>. After one semester of<br />
probation, a student who still does not meet the minimum<br />
requirements will be dropped from the <strong>College</strong> and is required to<br />
remain out at least one semester. Students may appeal to the<br />
Committee on Admission and Standing if they have not<br />
previously done so.<br />
Probation Requirements<br />
1. Students on full-time probation are expected to have a 2.0<br />
cumulative index at the end of the academic year.<br />
2. Students on part-time probation must satisfy the following<br />
academic requirements:<br />
a. each semester of the academic year, achieve a semester index<br />
of at least 2.3 in a maximum of two courses from among the<br />
<strong>College</strong> degree requirements, and<br />
b. make satisfactory progress toward a 2.0 cumulative index in<br />
all <strong>Lehman</strong> <strong>College</strong> work.<br />
Graduation Requirements<br />
To qualify for graduation with a <strong>Lehman</strong> <strong>College</strong> baccalaureate<br />
degree, students must complete the following requirements:<br />
1. completion of at least 120 credits, including all degree<br />
requirements;<br />
2. completion of at least 30 credits in coursework at <strong>Lehman</strong>,<br />
including at least half the number of credits in the student's<br />
major and half in the minor or half of the credits in an<br />
interdisciplinary program;<br />
3. a minimum <strong>Lehman</strong> <strong>College</strong> cumulative index of 2.0; and<br />
4. either a minimum grade of C or an overall index of 2.0 in all<br />
courses taken in the major and minor departments or in an<br />
interdisciplinary program.
