We are in search <strong>of</strong> friendly, outgoing<br />

members interested in greeting members<br />

and guests as they enter our center, providing<br />

tours to new members and sharing the<br />

details <strong>of</strong> the great programs we <strong>of</strong>fer in our<br />

<strong>newsletter</strong>. Training will be provided <strong>June</strong><br />

24 at 10 a.m. Please register at the desk so<br />

we have plenty <strong>of</strong> refreshments. Plan to join<br />

We need your help! It’s time for <strong>Mentor</strong>’s<br />

all new festival, <strong>Mentor</strong> <strong>City</strong>Fest to be held<br />

August 23–24. As you can imagine, we<br />

need volunteers to make this festival happen.<br />

We are looking for service groups or<br />

individuals willing to help out with various<br />

assignments. All we ask is that you commit<br />

to working a shift <strong>of</strong> 4-5 hours during the<br />

festival. Monetary donations are available<br />

for service groups interested in working on<br />

a few special assignments.<br />

Some ways to get involved are; children’s<br />

games, parade help, information table,<br />

clean up, set up and take down crew, ticket<br />

& wristband sales, and more!<br />

Progressive Winery Tour<br />

Begin the day with appetizers and wine tasting at<br />

the School House Winery which is located in a 124year<br />

old renovated one room school house. Then we<br />

travel to Raven’s Glenn Winery, known as “Ohio’s<br />

Crown Jewel <strong>of</strong> Wineries”. Enjoy a buffet luncheon<br />

overlooking the beautiful Tuscarawas River followed<br />

by a winery tour and a tasting <strong>of</strong> their award-winning<br />

Summer Classes and Registration/Refund Guidelines<br />

Senior Center membership is required to participate<br />

in Senior Center activities including class-<br />

<br />

Please register and pay at least one week before the<br />

beginning date <strong>of</strong> each class. The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Mentor</strong> accepts<br />

Cash, Check, Visa and Mastercard. When registering<br />

online, Discover and American Express may<br />

also be used.<br />

PROGRAM/ACTIVITY REFUND GUIDELINES<br />

1. A full refund or transfer is available if <strong>Mentor</strong> Senior<br />

Center cancels the program/activity.<br />

2. Transfers can be made with full credit, up to the<br />

<br />

same season and year <strong>of</strong> programs and into a program<br />

that has available space.<br />

3. An administrative charge <strong>of</strong> $10 will be assessed<br />

if the participant cancels out <strong>of</strong> the program/activity.<br />

Prevent the $10 fee by transferring the full amount<br />

to another program/activity within the same season.<br />

Center to see X-Ray: The Play is an original theatrical<br />

performance for children <strong>of</strong> all ages. Have you<br />

ever wanted to see through walls or other objects?<br />

How about seeing through yourself or your friends?<br />

What is hiding inside us anyways? X-Ray: The Play<br />

is an interactive story that explores the world under<br />

our skin and the things that hold us together. Come<br />

play and learn about the true meaning <strong>of</strong> family and<br />

friends, and awaken your curiosity about the mysteries<br />

<strong>of</strong> the human body and <strong>of</strong> x-rays!<br />

Food and Nutrition Classes<br />

The Food & Nutrition Program <strong>of</strong>fers individuals a chance to<br />

learn about portion control, adding fruits & vegetables to their<br />

plate, and most importantly, how to read a food label. Participants<br />

that complete each class will receive $10 in farmers’<br />

market vouchers per class that can be used at the <strong>Mentor</strong><br />

Market or the Painesville Farmers’ Market. Participants can<br />

complete each class topic only once. For each class completed,<br />

they will get a $10 voucher, for up to $30 voucher if<br />

they complete all 3 classes. Space is limited and registration<br />

is required at least 1 week prior to each class.<br />

<strong>Mentor</strong> Farmers Market<br />

Comes to Civic Center Park<br />

<strong>Mentor</strong> has expanded its Farmers Market to 15 weeks. Local<br />

farmers will sell their fruits and vegetables from 3-7 PM in<br />

the parking lot next to <strong>Mentor</strong> <strong>City</strong> Hall<br />

through September 6. Produce will vary<br />

from week to week and will also include<br />

baked goods, jams & jellies, syrups,<br />

honey, olive oil and other produce-related<br />

products. But that’s not all!! On <strong>June</strong> 28,<br />

<strong>July</strong> 26 and August 30, the Farmers Market<br />

will be joined by arts & craft vendors,<br />

food, live music and activities for the young … and young at<br />

heart. It’s all part <strong>of</strong> Final Fridays at Civic Center – our new<br />

spin on “The Market with a Festival Atmosphere.”<br />

This free, family-friendly, celebration on the lake incorporates<br />

the arts with the elements <strong>of</strong> wind, water and sand.<br />

and food. World Champion Sand Sculptor Carl Jara will<br />

be on the beach building a massive sand sculpture,<br />

from the Cleveland Art Museum’s Parade the Circle<br />

march along the shore. Spirit <strong>of</strong> America, along with Lake<br />

Metroparks and our <strong>Mentor</strong> Fire Dive Team, will organize<br />

boat safety lessons, water rescue<br />

demos, boat races and paddle<br />

board and kayak use.<br />

The event is presented by the <strong>City</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Mentor</strong> and Headlands Beach<br />

State Park with help from many<br />

community partners.<br />
