Graphic Thinking
For Architects And
Designers
Paul Laseau
nur ein Werkzeug?
The power of the unaided mind is highly
overrated. Without external aids, memory,
thought and reasoning are all constrained. The
real powers come from devising external aids
that enhance our cognitive abilities. How have
we increased memory, thought, and reasoning?
By the invention of external aids: it is the things
that make us smart.
(Don Norman, 1993, p. 43)
Augmented Architecture:
„Der Computer ist nur ein Werkzeug.“
nur ein Werkzeug?
Die Kraft des reinen Denkens wird stark
überschätzt. Ohne äußere Hilfsmittel sind
Erinnerungs- und Denkvermögen
eingeschränkt. Die wirklichen Kräfte
entstehen durch das Einsetzen äußerer
Hilfsmittel, die unsere kognitiven Fähigkeiten
verbessern. Wie haben wir Erinnerungs- und
Denkvermögen erweitert? Indem wir äußere
Hilfsmittel erfunden haben: Es sind die Dinge,
die uns schlau machen.
Augmented Architecture:
digital media and intuition
Intuition
Bei Bergson sind Intellekt und Intuition zwei
entgegengesetzte, sich ergänzende Funktionen
unseres Bewusstseins, wobei Intellekt das starre,
analytische Prinzip ist, das außerhalb der Zeit
steht, wohingegen Intuition das Erkennen des
handelnden Menschen in der Zeit meint.
L‘évolution créatrice, Henri Bergson, 1907
„Computers are abstract
and unsensual“
Intuition
For Bergson intellect and intuition are two opposite
complementary functions of consciousness:
intellect is the solidified, analytical principle, which
stands outside of time, whereas intuition is what
allows us to act and perceive in real time.
L‘évolution créatrice, Henri Bergson, 1907
Ivan Sutherland
Think again!
Man hört das immer wieder, aber stimmt es
auch wirklich?
gives us a chance to gain familiarity with
concepts not realizable in the physical world.
It is a looking glass into a mathematical
wonderland."
