Programs & Initiatives for 2011 Fall Meeting ULI’s Fall Meeting is the premier real estate industry event–the place where top decision makers meet to share strategies and solutions for dealing with today’s issues, and hear about the trends and opportunities that will give them a competitive edge in the future. OCTOBER 25-28, 2011 Urban Marketplace is a unique conference, brought to you by the Inner City and Urban Policy Committee, on investment opportunities and development strategies for Southern California’s emerging lower-income and distressed neighborhoods. MARCH 18, 2011 The TOD Summit strives to engage public and private sector leaders to discuss pressing transportation and land use challenges with the intent to identify common goals and principles that will lead to successful development around transit. JUNE 2, 2011 FutureBuild LA creates a dynamic forum and fosters dialogue allowing participants to explore sustainable technology, and the connection between transportation, green infrastructure, incentives, LEED, building design, and building operation. NOVEMBER 15, 2011 VantageForum is a pivotal day-long, interactive event presents illuminating trends and forecasts from local, regional and national perspectives. The program addresses the impacts of an evolving international economic framework and market fundamentals. LARC Awards are presented to four recipients to encourage and reward brave, innovative, and potentially world changing thought and to honor those who have distinguished themselves through unparalleled creative achievement. UrbanPlan is a simulation classroom exercise from January to June for high school students created by the Urban Land Institute. Students work in development teams to analyze and respond to a hypothetical “Request for Proposal” for the redevelopment of a specific urban area. Development teams compete to secure the rights from a fictitious city council made up of UrbanPlan volunteers. Breakfast Programs is a monthly program series for the whole ULI membership to gain new perspectives and skills. In the past, the topics have focused on housing trends, capital markets, parks, retail, entitlements and more. Technical Assistance Panels offer public agencies, private firms, and nonprofit organizations facing complex land use and real estate issues in the greater Los Angeles region expert and objective advice. The Young Leaders Group creates opportunities for young professionals to develop skills and build relationships that will help them advance in their careers, and to foster a connection to the broader ULI membership. Meet and Greets provide opportunities to learn about and discuss current projects, initiatives, and future goals with prominent individuals in the planning, design and government realms in the Los Angeles region. Site Tours & Case Studies offer members the opportunity to tour project and construction sites to get a first hand look at the process in action. These tours are led by individuals instrumental to the project, providing a one of a kind experience. Capital Market Series provides members and non-members with current information, commentary and insight on activities in the public and private real estate markets. Housing Initiative Council serves as a platform to understand issues around housing and to provide solutions to increase housing production in Los Angeles. Infrastructure Initiative Council addresses infrastructure needs for the continued growth and improvement of Los Angeles. ULI Los Angeles Annual Report 2011 | 14
