1000 Homes
1000 Homes is an initiative focused on helping to end chronic homelessness
in LA County. The involvement of the private sector in the battle to end chronic
homelessness is critical in order to develop solutions that are effective, practical,
and attainable. ULI Los Angeles partnered with UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate,
Corporation for Supportive Housing, Shelter Partnership, Inc., Westside Urban
Forum in this effort.
Development Competition
1000 Homes Development Competition inspired young professionals to create
feasible solutions that integrate development, design, and social services. Each
team was matched up with a public-sector sponsor to propose a supportive housing
project in one of the competition cities. The design objective was to meet the unique
needs of the community. The winners of the competition for their proposal to the
City of Glendale included: Jed Tarr, Connor Humphreys, Laura Leavitt, MSW, Derek
Leavitt, AIA, and Idalia Santos.
Mobile Tours
This past year, participants had the opportunity to walk through several exemplary
permanent supportive housing projects, learning directly from the development
executives that put the projects together, and hearing from elected officials that
championed these challenging projects into reality.
