Only the leg switch commands are shown in Figure 4.41. Using phase-A as an example, the leg<br />

command (SA) is translated to top (SAH) and bottom (SAL) signals. A dead-time delay of TD is<br />

inserted as shown in Figure 4.42. The diodes antiparallel with the transistors conduct during this<br />

dead-time period (whereas in a 120° inverter they may conduct during the 60° period over which<br />

both transistors in a leg are <strong>OF</strong>F).<br />

The SVM algorithm (sector identification and duration calculation), the leg command generation,<br />

and the dead-time insertion can be realized by discrete units or in various combinations with one<br />

another. The implementation could be analog but is most commonly it is digital and uses a<br />

combination of hardware and software.<br />
