For the purposes of precious metal supplies, among other things, Heraeus enters into precious
metal loans as both a lender and a borrower. Within the loan transaction, the lender
provides the borrower with a fixed quantity of a precious metal for a certain period of time
and in return receives interest for the provision of the precious metal. In the Heraeus
Group, precious metal loans are generally entered into for a period of up to 12 months.
As a borrower, Heraeus is not required to report the borrowed precious metals or the associated
obligation to return them in the balance sheet.
As of the balance sheet date, precious metals with a market value of € 293.8 million (previous
year: € 468.0 million) were on loan from third parties.
