07) Zhong, 61, was formerly vice-chairman of the Standing<br />

Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress. A native of<br />

Dongfang County in Hainan, Zhong joined the CCP in 1971. He had<br />

worked in state-owned farms in the southernmost island province by<br />

July 1986. He became the Party secretary of Sanya City in 1993 and<br />

has served as a member of the Standing Committee of the CCP<br />

Identified as deputy political commissar of Guangzhou Military<br />

Region in December 2004. (ChiDir, p. 226) He had served as<br />

director of its Political Department before. Zhou holds the rank of<br />

Yan Junqi and Zhou Yupeng, two vice-mayors of Shanghai have left<br />

their posts, the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal<br />

People's Congress announced on 27 <strong>February</strong>. Vice-Mayor Yan,<br />

61, has been working in Beijing as vice-chairwoman of the Central<br />

Committee of the <strong>China</strong> Association for Promoting Democracy. She<br />

was elected to the post in 2002. Yan had been responsible for<br />

technology, education and intellectual property work in the Shanghai<br />

A reshuffle of Shanghai government leaders, including the dismissal<br />

of two vice-mayors, was announced yesterday, but no mention was<br />

made of changes to the positions of the city's mayor or Communist<br />

Party secretary. The Shanghai People's Congress approved the<br />

removal of vice-mayors Zhou Yupeng and Yan Junqi, Shanghai<br />

television and the government-backed Eastday website said. Ms<br />

Yan, one of the few women serving in the upper levels of the<br />

Shanghai government, had been a vice-mayor since 2001. Reports<br />

Yan Junqi and Zhou Yupeng, two vice mayors of Shanghai have left<br />

their posts, the standing committee of the Shanghai municipal<br />

people's congress announced on 27 <strong>February</strong>. ... Zhou Yupeng,<br />

60, will act as vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the<br />

Municipal People's Congress, which he was elected to earlier this<br />

month. As vice-mayor his responsibilities included city development,<br />

vice-mayoral career was drawing to an end after he gave up the key<br />

World Expo portfolio last year. Shanghai will host the world's fair in<br />

2010. Mr Zhou, a native of Jiangsu province and an economist by
