iKavds, <strong>the</strong> above passage must be paraphrased as fohows :<br />

" After<br />

a few days, which he spent in <strong>the</strong> company <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> disciples in<br />

Damascus, he began at once to preach as a missionary."<br />

2 'Ev Tai>rais rots i]fj.€paii cannot possibly refer to verse 26*, but<br />

only to 2G".<br />

3 <strong>The</strong> passage introduced by <strong>the</strong>se words is not an interpolation<br />

without chronological reference, as Weiss thinks ; for <strong>the</strong> expression<br />

KaT eKdvov tov Kaipbv need not refer to <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> foundation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Antiochean Church in <strong>the</strong> strictest sense <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> word,<br />

but refers to <strong>the</strong> whole early history <strong>of</strong> that community so far as it<br />

had been narrated.
