The most important aspect <strong>of</strong> the actual build<strong>in</strong>g and settl<strong>in</strong>g was that<br />
<strong>of</strong> organic development. This meant a gradual, step-by-step construction<br />
and build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>side the area, allow<strong>in</strong>g enough space for redesign,<br />
follow<strong>in</strong>g the chang<strong>in</strong>g needs and accumulat<strong>in</strong>g experience. Earth shelter<strong>in</strong>g<br />
has many advantages <strong>in</strong> that <strong>in</strong>sulation properties are excellent<br />
and the <strong>in</strong>door climate is stable - cool <strong>in</strong> summer and warm <strong>in</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter.<br />
The first phase <strong>of</strong> hous<strong>in</strong>g has <strong>in</strong> fact now been completed and there<br />
are four f<strong>in</strong>ished houses on the site. Domes are popular for earth covered<br />
build<strong>in</strong>gs as they have an <strong>in</strong>herent strength due to their shape which<br />
can support the weight <strong>of</strong> earth on top.<br />
The common house, an ambitious earth sheltered domed build<strong>in</strong>g, is<br />
now f<strong>in</strong>ished and is used as residence for workers and <strong>in</strong>habitants who<br />
have not yet f<strong>in</strong>ished their own build<strong>in</strong>gs. There is a central hall <strong>in</strong> the<br />
common house. Fund<strong>in</strong>g for this project came also from Gaia Trust <strong>in</strong><br />
Denmark and the <strong>Europe</strong>an Union who have strongly supported Gyiiriifti<br />
with <strong>in</strong>frastructural and construction fund<strong>in</strong>g. The worn footwear<br />
is hung by the builders <strong>in</strong> true Hungarian custom to show time and<br />
effort used on build<strong>in</strong>g and is said to br<strong>in</strong>g luck.<br />
With<strong>in</strong> the village boundaries, car traffic is prohibited with the exception<br />
<strong>of</strong> transport<strong>in</strong>g heavy loads, or aged or ill persons. Alternatives for<br />
locomotion can be bicycles, horseback, buggies, etc. Some mach<strong>in</strong>ery<br />
