Group 1: 10 private houses, the last house was f<strong>in</strong>ished <strong>in</strong> 1996, with<br />

28 people <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 11 children. The people who live <strong>in</strong> these houses<br />

were <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the whole build<strong>in</strong>g process, which <strong>in</strong>cluded draw<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and build<strong>in</strong>g the houses as well as design<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>terior. 1 '<br />

Group 2: 20 residences and a community house. These houses for 50<br />

people, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 25 children, were f<strong>in</strong>ished <strong>in</strong> 1996 and are owned by<br />

a Build<strong>in</strong>g Society. In co-<br />

operation with the architects<br />

and the Build<strong>in</strong>g Society,<br />

the residents also<br />

had <strong>in</strong>fluence on the <strong>in</strong>terior<br />

design. It is the first<br />

time that a Build<strong>in</strong>g Society<br />

was <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

ecologically susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />

houses. This is parti­<br />

cularly important for<br />

people who wish to live <strong>in</strong> this form <strong>of</strong> hous<strong>in</strong>g, yet do not want to or<br />

cannot afford to build their own house.<br />

Group 3: this group will <strong>in</strong>clude 11 private houses and a community<br />

house, soon to be built for 26 people, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 9 children. The group<br />

will cont<strong>in</strong>ue the experience already ga<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the community and will<br />

improve grey water treatment through evaporation and by us<strong>in</strong>g a grove<br />

<strong>of</strong> willow trees for nutrient retention and evaporation <strong>of</strong> excess water.<br />

Group 4: This group is <strong>in</strong> the mak<strong>in</strong>g and are look<strong>in</strong>g for a Build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Society to help f<strong>in</strong>ance and build their houses.<br />

Build<strong>in</strong>g concepts <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />

• locally extracted materials as far as possible<br />

• houses with breathable materials, walls <strong>of</strong> unburned clay, wood,<br />

plaster, and recycled paper as isolation<br />
