Food Mart, Kapa‘a Shell, Lawai Menehune Food
Mart, Kekaha Menehune Food Mart and the
Ele‘ele Subway, which hosted CFL exchanges for
the community during September.
"It was an honor to have been able to
participate in the KEEP project,” said Derek
Kawakami, owner of Menehune Food Marts and
KIUC’s representative for Kaua‘i’s North Shore
District. “We are very grateful to both the Blue
Planet Foundation and KIUC for allowing us to
offer the neighborhoods that we serve an
opportunity to become more energy efficient.”
In all, the businesses were able to distribute
about 4,000 CFLs, which will save more than 2,200
barrels of oil during the lifetime of the bulbs.
“We look forward to working on future projects
like these with the Blue Planet Foundation and
KIUC,” said Kawakami. “Many thanks goes out to
all of the participants.”
