In order to improve data accuracy of neutron-capture cross sections of minor actinides<br />

(MAs) and long-lived fission products (LLFPs), a new experimental instrument named “Accurate<br />

Neutron-Nucleus Reaction measurement Instrument (ANNRI)” has been constructed in the<br />

Materials and Life science experimental Facility at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research<br />

Complex, and measurements of neutron-capture cross sections of MAs and LLFPs with high<br />

intensity pulsed neutrons have been started. Together with a brief view of ANNRI, preliminary<br />

neutron-capture cross sections of 244Cm and 246Cm are reported as examples of the measurements<br />

of the MAs.<br />

1. Introduction<br />

Accurate data of neutron-capture cross sections of minor actinides (MAs) and long-lived<br />

fission products (LLFPs) are being required to estimate the production and the transmutation<br />

rates in the field of nuclear systems such as transmutation of radioactive waste and various<br />

innovative reactor systems[1-2]. However, accurate measurements of these cross sections are very<br />

difficult due to high radioactivity of these samples.<br />

To satisfy these demands, Accurate Neutron-Nucleus Reaction measurement Instrument<br />

(ANNRI) has been developed by the collaboration of Hokkaido University, Tokyo Institute of<br />

Technology and <strong>JAEA</strong>. ANNRI is located on the Beam Line No. 04 of the Materials and Life<br />

science experimental Facility (MLF) at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC).
