VIEUX PORT & PORT PIERRE CANTO
30 years, a magnificent anniversary
from 12 - 17 September 2007
Europe's finest in-water boat show is thirty years old already! What is the key to this exceptional success, you ask? The answer: relentlessly pushing
back ever further the limits of what it is possible to do. It is a principle the organisers of the Cannes International Boat and Yacht Show have
always adhered to, right from the very beginning, in their desire to surprise and create a real news-making event each year.
The undeniable assets that have made the show an absolute must:
• A unique business climate that positions the event as a genuine international showcase, a reference in the yachting world;
• Many previews and the very latest models unveiled by a large number of exhibitors: this year, 200 boats and lots of equipment will be put on show for the
first time anywhere;
• A double offer: the new models and new boats at the Vieux Port; the very dynamic brokerage market (previously-owned yachts) at Port Pierre Canto;
• Sea trials, which offer customers a foretaste of the dream and a great “plus” for the shipyards;
• A show that is truly representative of the boating and water sports sector thanks to the diversity of products, equipment and services presented on land
by more than 400 exhibitors;
• Unrivalled dynamics arising from the increasing number of foreign exhibitors attracting an ever more international group of visitors each year.
A few figures…
• 54,716 visitors in 2006
• 80,000 m 2 of exhibition space (75,000 m 2 in 2006)
• 480 exhibitors
• 625 boats displayed in water, including 200 new models
• 250 boats displayed on land
• 700 trademarks presented at the show
• 86 % of the shipyards are from abroad
• 26 countries represented
The Story of a Tremendous Evolution,
described by Jacqueline Bourey,
founder and president of the show
It has already been 30 years since the Cannes International Boat and Yacht Show first came into being in the Old Port along
the Quai Max Laubeuf. What a long way we have come…so much shared determination at the time of its creation with the City
of Cannes, the Chamber of Commerce and particularly the industry professionals who all accepted to put their trust in me.
The show grew very quickly. Additions were added to the port. We increased the capacity and over the years, what began as
“the little show”, has become the major international event it is today. In 2001, the torch was taken up by a new team, Reed
Expositions France, and with the same passion as the show's founders; they succeeded in welcoming the foremost builders of
pleasure boats and luxury yachts, which had always been the objective. Our thanks go to the French Nautical Industries
Federation for its intention and constant effort to give France an internationally renowned in-water show: 625 boats and yachts
presented in water, 250 boats on land, more than 480 exhibitors spread across two ports, and international recognition that
makes the event the largest in-water show in Europe. For 30 years, in a kind of perpetual motion, borne by the launching of
close to 200 new models each year, the Cannes International Boat and Yacht Show has reinvented concepts and come up
with new areas so as to appropriate an evermore ambitious future. Last year, the show once again surpassed itself by opening
the event up to the world of brokerage at the Port Pierre Canto. In 2007, we are hoping to surprise you yet again!

The “Old” Port of Cannes
A showcase for the major new models
With 821 new boats displayed in water and on land, the Vieux Port is a past master at presenting, in a magnificent setting, a preview of 200 new models
built by the leading international shipyards. The quality and density of the show has won renown on water through a combined offer of motor and sailing
boats, 10 to 50 metres, and on land through the presence of many exhibitors dedicated to services and amenities for ever more sophisticated yachts…
Trends
For the past 4 years, the size of the motor boats displayed in water has increased significantly. As an example, between 2006 and 2007, the number of yachts
over 35 metres has doubled.
This increase is linked to two phenomena:
• The wish of the shipyards to exhibit their finest and largest boats at Cannes, the event being considered as the best “showcase” in Europe for presenting
their creations to buyers around the world.
• a tendency toward improving comfort on board and consequently an increase in their size.
The Offer
The Cannes's Vieux Port organises quite naturally into five zones providing a clear view of what is on offer at the show.
Ladurée proudly casts off, setting its gourmet sails for the most prestigious Boat and Yacht Show.
Marine Industry Trends
Growth supported by exports
With a rise of 7%, the French marine industry, in 2005, continued its progression at a steadier pace than the world market, reaching a turnover of € 1,076 million
compared to € 1,008 million in 2004. For the past ten years, the average annual growth rate of French production has been 14.5%.
This performance depends mainly on how dynamic French companies are on the foreign markets. From 1996 to 2005, exports rose from € 131 million to € 655 million,
representing for the period an annual grow of 19.6%. International sales today represent 61% of French production.
Sales within France have risen from € 188 million to € 421 million over the same period, representing an annual growth of 9.4%. Interestingly, during the course of the
past five years, the number of registered boats rose only by about 2%. A trend which shows, quite eloquently, the increase in the average size of the yachts sold.
For 2006, French professionals are anticipating production growth on the order of 6%.
An industry generating employment…
The industry numbers more than 44,000 jobs. Over the past four years, some 10,000 jobs were created. A trend which should continue, since independently
of market conditions, 8,000 to 9,000 additional jobs are on the horizon for 2008-2010, particularly for insuring the replacement of the baby-boomers going on
retirement.
… and mindful of its environment
Very attentive to the sustainable development of the yachting industry, the French Nautical Industries Federation intends to promote, through its Bateau
bleu Programme, products and concepts adapted to yachting and eco-friendly to the sea:
• Awarded each year and open to everyone, the Prix du Bateau bleu seeks
to support and encourage the research and development of products,
systems or concepts adapted to yachting for the general public, and
moving in the direction of greater protection of the environment. The 2007
prize will honour the best eco-design project of the boat and its equipment.
TO FIND OUT MORE, CONTACT:
• As for the Bateau bleu label, it concerns existing products and makes it
possible to promote their environmentally friendly nature. The labels can
be used on the one hand for new boats or on the other for equipment
that is adaptable to new and existing boats. This year in Cannes, an ever
growing number of yachts will be identified thanks to this label.
