Cheap Living
Bee Clarke
Assistant Editor-in-Chief
We all know that being a student means
being broke, especially if you’re living on
your own with little to no outside financial
aid. Most advice to live cheaply is actually
crap if you’re broke, such as buy in bulk as it
is cheaper, only if you’re broke you don’t have
the money to buy in bulk.
Clipping coupons, finding out what’s on
special and shopping around in different
places for different things supposes that you
have a lot of time and money for bus fare/gas
to do this. Most of this advice is given out by
middle class know-it-alls who don’t actually
have to live cheaply and make their own yogurt
etc, but I’m probably expected to
mention it, if only to debunk it. You can live
really cheaply if you soak your own beans
and pulses and then cook them yourself, but
we’re talking hours of commitment here.
Same goes for making your own bread, hours
rising dough plus cooking time. Smart-alec
idiots try to get around this by bringing up
breadmakers, which are expensive as well as
1.5 kg lean ground beef
Cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
0.75 kg ground pork
1 egg
¼- ½ of a large onion
2-3 cloves Garlic
Paprika, Salt, Pepper.
Now you measurements don’t really
have to be exact, the important things to
know are the 2:1 ratio of the beef to pork,
and that you need to add at least one egg.
The rest of the ingredients are meant to be
adjusted to your liking, so if you like garlic
but not onions or salt, go ahead and change
it up as you see fit.
Hey Everyone!
Have you heard that seats are now
open on Congress? SUJAC is looking
for Pre-University and Technology student
making terrible bread. You can make your
own yogurt for pennies, if you have space
enough in your place to leave it to ferment.
You will find that most-living-cheaply advice
is given by people who don’t have a clue.
My best advice for you is probably stuff
that seems obvious once you’ve thought
about it, but is still not followed by most. Buy
generic brands of everything, including tylenol,
Band-Aids etc. Buying fresh herbs are
nice, but if there’s just one or two of you, they
will go off before you use them. You can buy
tubes of herbs, sort of semi-fresh-minced
ones in supermarkets which will keep in the
fridge. Then you can make a generic tomato
sauce with a can of tomatoes, onions, garlic &
salt & pepper. You can add herbs to it after
initial cooking, i.e basil one day for pasta
sauce, coriander next day for more middle
eastern flavour. If you keep sauce in the
fridge it will last a few days and you can get
two-to-three separate and or, different meals
out of it.
You can go vegan, but it’s as boring as
hell. It is worth buying meat that will make
several meals. A chicken is cheap and if
Steps:
This part is simple, literally put all of
your desired ingredients together in an appropriate
bowl and mash ‘em up (your
hands will get messy). You should mix for a
good 5-10 minutes depending on how
much meat you’re mixing. Once mixed,
grab a single hand full of meat and make it
into a patty. Note: the patty will shrink during
cooking! Repeat this process until
you’re out of meat. For extra creativity leave
some extra meat, and hollow out the inside
of your made patties, so that they look like
bowls. In this hole put the shredded cheese
of your choice. Use the extra meat to seal
off the hole and now you have cheeseburgers,
literally.
Here’s where things get complicated,
SUJAC and speak with the Vice-President
External, Roberta MacLean, to learn more.
The next COAC meeting will be on
Tuesday, February 19, at Champlain Saint
Lambert with more topics to cover.
SUJAC-Club Day is coming up on
Thursday, February 7, from 10 am to 3 pm
in The Agora. With our ‘Winter
Wonderland’ theme coinciding with
‘National Sweater Day’…to promote energy
conservation and fight against global
warming…SUJAC is holding a ‘Crazy
Sweater Contest’ with a Photo Booth.
Create a wacky sweater and you could win
a cool prize! Drop by The Agora and check
out all the Clubs and meet your student
reps. Get ready to ‘Like’ the SUJAC
frugal you can make it last most of the week.
Cook it one day in the oven, add to your generic
sauce the next day, make sandwiches,
use bits left over for stir-fry. If you’re really
frugal, boil the leftover carcass with onions,
carrot, something herby and you have stock
you can make into soup or add to rice you
cook. Also, you can drag out casseroles and
stews for several days by adding more vegetables
to them. You can buy bags of broken rice
in Indian stores. Only rice is broken, not perfect
grains, it’s a bit starchier, i.e sticky, but
much cheaper than basmati or brand names.
Supermarkets have a rack of fruit and
vegetables which they want to sell quickly because
they are ripe and will spoil in a few
days. There’s nothing wrong with it. Same
with things which are near their sell by dates.
It does not mean they’ve gone off, they just
want to get rid of them. Most packaged foods
are fine for a long time after expiry dates.
There’s been tinned goods opened from napoleonic
times which have been perfectly
edible. Most bread products don’t go off.
Living cheap isn’t always easy, but its
more than do-able!
basically for those who don’t know ,the bigger
you make them the lower the heat you
have to use, so this is really where, if you’re
new, you have to pay attention. Now you
also have to gage how you like your meat
cooked. Rare (hardly cooked), Medium
rare (a little more cooked but not all the
way yet), or well done (cooked all the way).
The less cooked you want it, the higher the
heat that you can use. For my suggested
size I would say that you should cook the
patties for 2 minutes a side, flipping it 3
times over a medium heat. The rule of
thumb when cooking meat is generally just
to poke it and look at the juices when they
come out. With beef and pork the juices
will almost never be totally clear so when it
looks fairly light you know you are done.
Facebook and enjoy a candy buffet and
some delicious free homemade cake!
All in all, it is going to be a fun day…so
come by The Agora on Feb. 7.
Winter 2013 semester has only just
begun, but, remember, SUJAC is here
for you! If you have any problems with a
teacher or a grade, or just need some
general advice on something, we are
here for you and our door is open. In
fact, SUJAC Open House is coming up
next week--from Tuesday to Thursday,
February 12 to 14—so this will be a perfect
chance to come by the SUJAC
Office…again, P-101…to sip some coffee
and enjoy a cookie while you are
here. See you!
Ask Alice
There is a guy I’m interested in
and we flirt all the time and it
seems like he’s interested but he
has a girlfriend. What should I
do?
Him having a girlfriend should already
be a red flag. The truth of the
matter is that he probably seems interested
in you because he’s a flirty
guy. If you can accept that he is in a
committed relationship (one in
which does not involve you), I
would ease off the flirting and be
strictly amicable towards him.
However, if you know you’ll be
tempted to make a move, slowly
stop talking to him. You don’t want
to stir the witch’s cauldron.
Cheating is a very upsetting thing
for anyone to go through; you don’t
want to be the cause of anyone’s
pain. If he is continuously persistent
about flirting with you even
after you take a step back, talk to
him. I know it’s easier said than
done, but simply explaining that
you feel uncomfortable when he
flirts with you while having a girlfriend
should do the trick. You have
the luxury of flirting with any guy
you want, just make sure he’s also
single next time.
Is it rude to skip out on a family
reunion due to excessive
homework?
It is imperative that you factor in
how much time you normally spend
with your family and how long the
family reunion will take. If you
barely spend enough time with
them on a regular basis, perhaps it
is best to make a compromise.
Spend a portion of the day with
your family so that they know you
still care about them. For the rest of
the day, excuse yourself and catch
up on homework. Spending an
hour with your family won’t do you
too much harm. Not only will it
give you a break from your stressful
overload of work but it will also allow
you to bond with the people in
your life who matter the most.
Maintaining a healthy balance between
both your school life and
social life is crucial.
McMUN 2013
Emma Sutherland
News Editor
McMUN, an abbreviation of McGill
Model United Nations, is one of the largest
and most important Model UN conferences
on the continent. Recognized for its caliber
of competition and breadth of topics it addresses,
it brings together students from far
and wide in a stimulating atmosphere to discuss
and present solutions to issues relevant
to the modern generation and the international
community.
When I arrived in the crowded hotel
lobby of the Sheraton center, the general ambiance
was one of excitement, and with good
reason- delegations hailing from Minnesota
and Michigan, New York and Ohio, as well as
several from overseas had come to participate
in the event. This year, eleven countries
were represented: Canada, USA, Brazil,
United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, France,
Australia, India, Bangladesh and Namibia.
Every delegate had partaken in a lengthy
preparation process and was no doubt excited
that the day had finally arrived.
During the opening ceremonies, participants
were introduced to the conference’s
official charity, Right to Play, by Canadian
rower Marnie McBean, before Paul
Heinbecker, keynote speaker and former
representative of Canada at the United
Nations, addressed the delegates. After a few
Am I normal?
Innuendo Twins
Sex Columnists
A huge part of college is that it’s
a useful time to figure things out
about yourself. Be it academically,
socially or even sexually. And we’re
lucky enough to be in an environment
where we can do so without judgement,
and with the support you may or
may not need. There are places you
can go, for example GALA (the gay
and lesbian association), where you
can talk and hang out with other people
who have similar sexual interests
as you. Part of college is also becoming
comfortable with who you are,
something a lot of people aren’t comfortable
with in high school. None the
less, a lot of us will question whether
or not our sexual desires and needs
are “normal” or not.
There is a huge range of different
human sexual preferences, from the
vanilla sex of the world to the kinky
stuff. What standards should we base
normal on? We believe it should be on
a very “what floats your boat” sort of
stand point, but there are some guidelines
that you should always follow.
The APA (American psychological association)
and the CPA (Canadian
psychological association) both say
that behaviours and attitudes are only
short words from McMUN’s secretary-general,
the 24 th installment of McMUN officially
began.
The conference was structured much
like any Model UN event: participants were
divided into committees which pertained to
topics ranging from the World Health
Organization to Social Media, and discussed
the issue from the standpoint of a particular
country, party or relevant figure. John Abbott
delegates featured in simulations of the 1960
Fourth Emergency Special Session of the
United Nations General Assembly pertaining
to the Congo crisis, participated discussions
on sustainable development in northern
Quebec and on the interests of Canadian
provinces, and engaged in dialogue about intellectual
property and human trafficking.
Despite its businesslike nature, the conference
was far from devoid of opportunities
for entertainment. The weekend was peppered
with events designed to facilitate
interaction among the participants outside of
a competitive setting, beginning with meetand-greet
sessions after the opening
ceremonies and several committee dinners.
As well, Friday night’s pub crawl and the
much-anticipated McParté allowed for a casual
atmosphere in which long-lasting
friendships and mildly questionable decisions
could be made.
The committee sessions themselves held
their share of amusement. Ministers were
worthy of clinical or other attention if
they are “problematic in the eyes of
the individual or society”. In other
words, it is a fantasy or behaviour
causing you or others distress?
There are some sexual disorders
that you might want to look into . If
you find that your sexual tendencies
are interfering with your day to day
life or interactions with other people,
you should keep an eye on it or see a
professional of sorts. Paraphilias and
fetishes are two sexual disorders that
can cause significant distress or interfere
with functioning.
A fetish is a recurrent, intense
sexually arousing fantasy, urge or behaviour
involving the use of non-living
objects, and not to be confused with a
simple turn on. You can be turned on
by something (for example men in
cowboy hats) without it being a fetish.
Common examples of fetishes are female
underwear; rubber, plastic or
leather garments; specific articles of
clothing such as really nice shoes.
A paraphilia is a mental disorder
characterised by six months of sexual
fantasies, urges or behaviours involving
non-human objects, suffering or
humiliation, children, other non-consenting
persons (voyeurism for
example). There is a range within the
paraphilias however. Some people can
assassinated, national policies were ridiculed,
and nonsensical measures were proposed. As
improbable international alliances were
made, weapons (fake and otherwise) were
used to illustrate points, rappers were referenced
and amusing metaphors were
employed, there was never a doubt that the
relatively serious material could be infused
with good humour by the variety of dynamic
individuals present.
In addition to the knowledge and experience
acquired, I would certainly
recommend this event for the opportunity it
offers to work with some highly driven and
entertaining personalities and to better understand
important aspects of our current
world. If you can fit it into your schedule, it
would certainly be unadvisable to turn it
down.
ignore them and function sexually
without it, some resort to it under
stress, but some cannot become sexually
aroused without the stimuli, and
then some find that it is the exclusive
means of sexual satisfaction. It is only
a problem though, as with any other
sexual behaviour, if “the person acted
on these urges, or the sexual urges and
fantasies caused marked distress or
interpersonal difficulty”.
Whatever your sexual preference
may be, or whatever you might like to
do in bed, you should never be afraid
to talk to someone about it. If you
aren’t comfortable talking to your
friends just yet, don’t shy away from
talking to a counsellor. There is always
going to be someone to talk to
and to help you.
Military attack on Syria: Israel recieves blame
Michael Cloney
Contributor
Syria has claimed that a recent attack
on a Syrian military research base outside
the capital city Damascus was conducted
by Israel.
Israeli defence minister, Ehud Barak,
has neither confirmed nor denied his
country’s involvement in this attack but
recently alluded to Israel’s involvement,
“That’s proof when we said something we
mean it... We say that we don’t think it
should be allowed to bring advanced
weapons systems into Lebanon.” He further
stated that he had no further
information or details to release about the
incident that was not already accessible.
The Israeli government has hinted
that the attacks were conducted out of self
defence as local security information and
leads suggested that military supplies, particularly
widely controversial chemical
weapons, were being sent from the Syrian
military base to a Lebanese branch of the
infamous terrorist group Hezbollah, an
organization with whom Israel and other
Middle Eastern Nations have had conflicts
in the past.
Syria denounces all claims that weapons
intended for Hezbollah were being
produced and/or distributed from within
their borders. Furthermore, the army’s
general command of that military research
base made a statement regarding the
Abbey Vandzura
Staff Writer
On January 11th, 2013, France’s military
sent soldiers to Mali in an attempt to
help the country push back Islamist extremists
linked to al-Qaida who had been taking
over parts of the country for the past several
months.
Since conquering major Malian cities
last April, the Islamists had stayed in their
conquered territory in Northern Mali, getting
comfortable and establishing their
authority. The week before the French arrived
showed the Islamists changing their
ways, pushing toward the center of the country
in the hopes of spreading their control.
France intervened after the weakened
Malian government urgently asked for help
after the Islamists took over a frontier town,
Konna, which separated the extremist- and
government-controlled areas of the country
on Thursday, January 10th.
The reasons for the extremists’ attack
on the town are unclear, but the incident is
believed to be a prelude to them targeting
larger towns and cities, eventually reaching
the capital, Bamako.
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 | Volume 42, Issue 08- 4..
incident: “Israeli fighter jets violated our
airspace at dawn today and carried out a
direct strike on a scientific research centre
in charge of raising our level of resistance
and self-defence.” The Syrian government
reports severe property damage, including
the destruction of the main building. It
later went on to report the attacks took the
lives of two workers, while wounding five
others.
Many other Middle Eastern countries
such as Turkey, Iran and Lebanon have all
stood behind Syria’s denunciation of
Israel’s attacks. Turkish Prime Minister
Recep Tayyip Erdogan specifically vocalized
his disapproval of Israel’s supposed
attacks to reporters, even going so far as to
say, “As I say time and again, Israel has a
mentality of waging state terrorism. Right
now, there is no telling what it might do
and where it might do it.” Occurrences
and statements like these underline the serious
tensions occurring between
countries in the Middle East such as Syria
and Iran with countries of the “Western
World”, namely the United States of
America.
As tensions between Israel and neighbouring
countries such as Syria and
Lebanon increase, while the unrelated
current Syrian civil war is escalating and
historic wars in the Middle East are still in
living memory, concerns for the future in
the Middle East are appearing bleak to
some.
Canadian and French military unite forces to intervene in Mali
Since France’s military began its attack
on the Islamists, soldiers have been placed
in French airports, train and subway stations,
and at monuments like the Eiffel
Tower and the Louvre to protect against
possible terrorist attacks by extremists already
inside the country.
Canada also contributed to the effort
of taking back control of northern Mali
by lending France their C-17 heavy-transport
plane, which they used to transport
military vehicles and other equipment to
Mali. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has
offered the plane to France for a week, and
the French have asked for an extension on
the length of the mission. The mission was
extended until February 15th. Harper also
said that Canada will not be sending combat
troops to Mali to help the French and
African soldiers already there.
On the weekend of January 26th-27th,
French and Malian troops took control of
Gao, a major Malian city, and seized
Timbuktu, another major city, on Monday,
January 28th. These cities are now once
again under government authority.
The quick advance on Timbuktu
might be the beginning of the end of the
major French involvement in Mali. They
may leave the rest of the northward advance
to the African troops that have also
been helping the Malian military.
When Timbuktu was captured last
April, the Islamists imposed the Shariah
Law, forcing women to hide their faces,
banning anyone from venerating any
saints, which is considered un-Islamic.
The law compelled the population to hide
their important manuscripts and amulets,
protecting them from the Islamists.
Timbuktu was known for its music, which
was silenced by the extremists.
On top of the use of their C-17 heavylift
transport plane, Canada is donating 13
million dollars for humanitarian use. The
money will help the country access safer
food, fight malnutrition, provide emergency
health care, and much more.
The extremist fighters have retreated
to the desert, which is believed to be a
strategic retreat, meaning the fights are
not over and they have not given up.
African forces are still gathering in Mali,
with 2, 900 soldiers already in place. The
the Giant Squid, rumoured to have
Idle No More — A plea for change
Emma Sutherland
News Editor
Over past months, Canadians have
sparked a much-needed discussion regarding
the heavily-flawed dynamic
between the federal government and
the nation’s aboriginal population.
What began as an expression of dissatisfaction
towards Bill C-45, introduced
in the House of Commons in October
2012 and declaring a drastic reduction
in federal protection of water-ways, has
expanded into an important popular
movement. The bill reduces obligations
of major development projects towards
the environment, namely power and
pipelines.
In early November, Sylvia
McAdams, Nina Wilson, Jessica Gordon
and Sheelah McLean created a Facebook
group and a website out of frustration
towards the lack of coverage of the bill,
before word quickly spread through social
media. As the movement grew, it
was criticized for demonstrating a lack
of specificity in its requests and message,
described by media sources as a
“grassroots movement” lumped in with
other efforts such as the Occupy movement.
Nonetheless, the values espoused
by supporters are fairly clear- pleas are
3m in length with eyes the size of dinner plates,
this squid sure could give your calamari dish a
run for its money.
Despite scepticism regarding the importance
of this discovery, oceanographer Dr
Edith Widder believes this is only the
beginning:
“We’ve explored only five percent of the
ocean and look what’s down there. We haven’t
even been doing it right!”
Widder even goes on to describe new possibilities
for medicine: “There could be cures for
cancer down there; the Nobel prize of 2008 was
awarded for the chemicals extracts of a
jellyfish”
Whether the 60m long giant squid,
claimed by folklore to engulf people, exists or
not there is no doubt that now these depths
have been explored and with the revolutionary
optical lure, delving further into marine studies
leaves endless possibilities.
being made for a greater recognition of
aboriginal rights and for an increased
level of awareness of environmental issues.
The demands are certainly
founded- treaties exist to ensure cooperation
between First Nations and the
federal government in situations involving
the exploitation of natural
resources, and the proposed laws failed
to acknowledge this.
Across the country, peaceful demonstrations
were held, and multiplied
in quantity and intensity when Idle No
More held a National Day of Action.
France’s energy conservation plan
Olivia Ubran
Staff Writer
France is a popular destination for
tourists all around the globe. In Paris,
the City of Light, the Eiffel Tower and
the Champs-Élysées are must-see sights
at night. However, the trademark glow
of the famous city will have to dim its
lights as of July 2013. In an effort to
conserve energy and save money, the
French Government has implemented a
new decree: all stores, offices and other
non-residential buildings must turn
their lights off between the hours of
1:00 am and 7:00 am for every city and
town in France. This includes the Eiffel
Tower and the Champs-Élysées
illumination.
The new law will save about two
terawatt/hours of electricity every year.
This amount is comparable to the annual
consumption of 750,000
households. Delphine Batho, the environment
minister of France stated that
this movement will also cut the carbon
dioxide emissions by 250,000 tons a
year. She also assures that the reduction
of light pollution is beneficial for
all. In terms of public health, the movement
will allow better sleep patterns
and will also help the ecosystems of the
region, who are affected by artificial
lighting. This is a huge leap forward
from the environmental point of view.
Ms. Batho explains the purpose of the
new law: “One of our main objectives
Over subsequent days the protests continued,
resulting in the blocking of
several roads and railways.
Simultaneously, but not in conjunction
with the movement, Chief Teresa
Spence of Attawapiskat undertook a
hunger strike to demand meaningful
consultation between the government
and aboriginal leaders, which was without
a doubt the most controversial
pressure tactic thus far. Attawapiskat
reserve received widespread media attention
last year due to the dire living
conditions of its residents, and chief
is to change the culture. We need to end
the cycle of producing more because we
are consuming more. There should be
sobriety in energy use.”
Not everyone is in agreement with
the new decree. Many worry about the
effect this act will have on the French
economy. ‘‘Tourism accounts for a significant
percentage of the country’s
gross domestic product and employs
some 900,000 people,’’ according to
government figures cited by Bloomberg.
com.
From the economic perspective,
this law is a risk. From the environmental
perspective, it is a stepping
stone to a better and brighter future!
Spence pointed blame at the federal
government for the lack of infrastructure
on the reserve.
Over six weeks, Spence carried out
a strike in a teepee on an island in the
Ottawa river, sustaining herself on a
liquid diet of fish broth, lemon water
and tea in order to bring about a meeting
between the Assembly of First
Nations with Stephen Harper and the
governor-general David Johnson.
Harper did agree to meet with a few
members of the Assembly, but Spence
and several others boycotted the meeting
due to the absence of the
governor-general. Concerns for her
health and finally incited her to cease
her efforts after a day and a half of
hospitalization.
Despite its best efforts, Idle No
More is gradually losing media attention
as the federal government
gradually turns its attention towards
other affairs. Organizers will have to
decide which direction they wish to
take in order to exploit the attention
and support that they have garnered. It
remains to be seen if the movement will
overshadow the message and whether
the pressing issue of aboriginal affairs
can avoid sinking once again to the bottom
of the federal agenda.
Chuck Palahniuk’s “Invisible Monsters” Review
Tessa Mascia
Contributor
Page Tuner. These two words are all
that are needed to describe Chuck
Palahniuk’s novel, Invisible Monsters.
From the get go, the reader is enticed into
finding out more about the main character
and her recent freak accident. Her
name is Shannon, a hospitalized supermodel.
Her face, her looks, her “raison
d’etre” have been shattered, literally. She
has been shot in the face while driving on
the highway. Her face’s remains have been
chewed out by a flock of seagulls.
Yes, right form the get go, Palahniuk
hooks the reader in with his unorthodox,
“in your face” style of writing. Flashbacks,
symbolisms, and irony are all on the
menu.
“Transgressional fiction,” is the genre
that he has labelled his work and this
book has everything that the niche has to
offer. His mastery of the English language
and his techniques used to portray characters
put him in a class of his own.
After a relatively lengthy introduction,
we are dumped right into the
non-linear time telling masterpiece as
told by the perspective of our main character,
Shannon (Although she goes by
other aliases throughout the novel).
Shannon’s adventure arguably begins
when she meets Brandy Alexander, her
partner in crime, at a speech therapy section
of the hospital in which she is staying.
From here, the ride begins.
Vowing revenge upon her once best
friend and colleague in the modelling
world for the attack on her face, Shannon,
Brandy, and Shannon’s ex boyfriend tour
the country in an attempt to access illicit
drugs and cause havoc of their own. The
novel concludes with stunning revelations
about the characters. The finale does
the rest of the novel justice and is worthy
of cinematic representation. Satisfying
endings are a seemingly rare occurrence
in modern literature.
People who have read the novel or
other books from Palahniuk know that
his style of writing is brutal, in your face,
and action packed. As a matter a fact,
Invisible Monsters was initially rejected
for publishing because it was deemed
“too controversial.” Indeed, the intensity
of the novel is rather explicit. Although
some may be put off by the non-linear
fashion in which it is told, all the pieces
eventually come together for a great reward
to the reader. For those who have
not read the novel, you should know that
Chuck Palahniuk also wrote Fight Club,
which was later turned into a movie of the
same name. If you have watched and enjoyed
the fragmented, time lapsing, plot
twisting cacophony that is Fight Club,
you will most definitely know what to
Adam Gontier leaves Three Days Grace
Dina Willis
Entertainment Editor
On January 9 2013, Three Days
Grace shocked their fans with the announcement
of the departure of their
lead singer, Adam Gontier. His departure
was said to be due to medical
reasons. My Darkest Day’s Matt Walst,
brother of Three Days Grace bassist
Brad Walst will be filling in for Adam on
tour. This caused a bit of an outcry from
fans that bought tickets expecting to be
seeing Adam, but many remained optimistic
and supportive of both Adam and
the band.
However, the situation doesn’t end
there of course, because what’s a resignation
without petty, finger-pointing
accusations via Facebook?
Adam was the first to do this, starting
off his post seemingly innocently,
thanking his fans for the constant love
and support and telling them that he is
not done making music. That’s where
things begin to go south. He states
vaguely how he is disappointed that the
people he believed to be closest to him
just picked up, moved on and pretended
nothing happened, without even attempting
to see how he was doing. Just
in case it wasn’t already obvious enough
that he was referring to his ex-bandmates,
he states: “It’s sad, but it is what it
is. The music BUSINESS. Remember
this people..., in my/our case, it’s always
been about the “business”. The money.”
He then closes his statement by promising
that his new music would be real,
honest and from the heart.
As to be expected, it wasn’t long until
Three Days Grace returned with a
statement of their own. They started off
by explaining that they had intended to
keep these matters to themselves, but
due to Adam’s statement, they wanted to
“give the fans the facts”. The band states
that they were informed of Adams departure
though a letter from Adams
lawyer, which apparently came as a
shock to the band, who had just performed
some shows with Adam and saw
none of this coming. They sent a text
message to Adam asking him to get together
as discuss to make sure this was
what he wanted rather than just ending
expect when engaging yourself with
Invisible Monsters, a book which is arguably
more entertaining than Fight Club
was as a movie.
In essence, Invisible Monsters is a
book which must be read by any book
worm, any person who appreciates a good
story, and anyone who is ready for entertainment.
The unorthodox approach
taken to telling this story as well as the
deliciously unexpected plot twists keep
the reader both intellectually stimulated
and entertained. This book is a modern
classic, on par with many other classics.
Like good wine, it will only get better
with age. Words cannot do this review
justice. Purchasing and reading it will.
their 20-year relationship through a
lawyer. Nevertheless, the request was
denied and Adam’s reply was apparently
“My decision is 100%. My relationship
with Three Days Grace is over.”
What also upset the band was that
due to Adam’s “health problems” he
would not be able to perform with the
band on tour, yet he was still going to be
performing a solo show on January 17th.
They closed their statement by promising
to carry on with the Transit of Venus
tour and continue moving forward.
Of course, Gontier wouldn’t let the
band have the last word. Responding
with a shorter post, indirectly responding
to the bands accusations saying that
he would make his health records public,
which would apparently include his
“emotional struggles within Three Days
Grace for over the last two years”. He has
yet to do this, but whenever (if ever) this
happens, it will definitely be interesting
to see. He states that after this is put to
rest, he hopes he can move on with dignity
and faith.
As if the situation wasn’t highschool-drama-esque
enough, Adam
Gun control: Do or die?
Angelina Smolynec
Contributor
When we look how far the human
race has progressed in the past
hundred years, it’s kind of intimidating.
We have overcome a lot,
from severe natural disasters to
genocides. To look back at everything
our race has seen and
successfully lived through is incredible
and we should look at the world
differently knowing how fragile life
is. Look through all of the most recent
articles on any news site and
tell me that we value life any more
than we did one hundred years ago.
We’re just into the second month
of 2013 and the topic of gun control
is at its peak. Every week we hear
about another shooting or homicide
involving a firearm in our country
or the one next door. The one most
talked about was that of a school in
Connecticut where 20 children and
six adults were killed. More shootings
have followed, yet unbelievably
As a student in the Social Sciences
program, I am subject to much prejudice
from peers and adults alike. I
have heard numerous disempowering
comments concerning the lack of effort
the program demands. Friends
have deemed my program a joke compared
to Sciences, stating that it is one
of the easiest programs in the college.
How has this unwritten hierarchy of
affairs been put into place?
I have heard strangers in the halls
joke about social science students being
in the program merely because
they don’t know what to do with their
lives. Who is to say that I am clueless
about my future because of the program
I am in? My program does not
define who I am, nor does it predetermine
my future career. These wild
assertions are both erroneous and
grossly ignorant to the way life plays
out.
The stereotype is that Sciences demands
more work than Social
Sciences. According to one science
student, studying for tests takes more
time compared to those in Commerce
since there is more memorization involved.
I could not disagree more. The
amount of time necessary for one to
enough, people still roam the streets
with guns under their belts and in
their closets. The issue of gun control
is one that can be talked about
in depth, however conclusions seem
far away. Rather than facing the
problem head on, government officials
continue to put the blame on
the people holding the guns, blaming
the youth or the mentally
disabled. What needs to be realized
fully understand concepts and study
for tests depends on each individual’s
personal abilities. I am not devaluing
Sciences; I completely understand
that one must work hard to do well in
such a program. However, if Social
Sciences were such an easygoing program,
wouldn’t everyone be receiving
high 90s? Courses like Calculus,
Macroeconomics and the History of
Western Civilization require a sufficient
amount of understanding in
order to succeed. One cannot just
conjure up amazing grades without
is that the problem is in the weapon,
not the person holding it. Give anyone
a firearm and they are
dangerous, whether it be your pastor
or your ten year-old neighbour.
The whole argument that you only
keep a gun for protection purposes
is completely outdated and should
be scrapped entirely. What, so if
someone breaks into your house
you’re going to just shoot them?
Sciences vs. Social Sciences: An unspoken battle of the intellectuals
Caroline Houle
Opinions Editor
doing anything to deserve them.
Although we may not have Chemistry
or Physics (however, certain science
courses such as Biology are offered to
social science students), we have a
hefty amount of reading and writing
to make up for it.
I’m not in Sciences because it
does not spark an ounce of passion or
excitement in me. I’d rather spare myself
the misery and study something I
know I will enjoy. Our decisions and
choices are what shapes us humans
down to the finest detail. Anyone with
Yeah, well they might be protecting
themselves with a gun as well and
then you’ll both be set back into
neutral, except both parties will be
loaded with lead bullets and enough
force to tear through flesh. Now if
there were no guns at all, that would
be another conversation. The fact
that people claim it is their right to
own fifteen guns for “protection” is
utterly ridiculous. If neither you nor
the thief trying to break into your
house has a gun on them, maybe
some fisticuffs will ensue, maybe
not. But at least one of you may not
die tonight.
The sad fact is that guns are very
much present in society today: in
our stores, in our schools, and even
in our homes. The end of gun violence
needs to come before more
innocent lives are lost based on the
excuses of “protection” and “basic
rights”. We’ve seen so much violence
but we still have so much to overcome.
When will it be enough?
enough passion and determination
can make it through Sciences. If that’s
what you want to do in life, kudos to
you. As for me, I’d rather be a CEO, a
writer or even a humanitarian. Being
in Sciences does not make you more
intellectual than others who are venturing
down different career paths.
Some people argue that us social
science students are in the program
mainly because we don’t know what to
do with our lives. I dare you to ask
your friends what they want to be
when they grow up. They may strike
up a foggy recognition of what they
hope to pursue in life; however, most
of us don’t have a clear image about
our future. That’s because the future is
unforeseeable, something yet to be
discovered through many experiences
and trials.
Next time you’re about to judge us
social science students, educate yourself
about the program before you
make false assumptions. To factor in
one’s worth based on what they are
studying is both juvenile and immature.
Each and every individual has
the capacity to make a difference in
life, no matter what career he or she
chooses. Keep in mind: what you
hope to accomplish today may lead
you down a completely different pathway
tomorrow.
Hamed Al-Khabaz: Hero or hacker?
Brendan McGarry
Production Manager
Do you ever hear stories in the news
that sound like they’re missing details? Do
you ever have friends passionately support
or oppose a cause that they completely
misunderstand? And most importantly,
do you ever realize that you’ve made the
same mistake?
Two weeks ago, a National Post article
about a Dawson student who was
expelled spread like wildfire on social media.
It was an outrage-inducing story
about how Hamed Al-Khabaz, a student
in Dawson’s Computer Science program,
discovered and reported a bug in the
Omnivox system that endangered about
250,000 students—and he was expelled
for it. On top of that, his transcript was
filled with zeros and he was denied appeals
to both the dean and the
governor-general of Dawson.
At first glance, this seemed unfair.
The more I read the article, however, the
more Dawson’s decision made sense.
When Hamed reported the security issue
to Mr. Paradis, Dawson’s Director of
Information Services and Technology, he
was congratulated, thanked and told that
What about Syria?
Sam Hersh
Contributor
On January 16, it was announced by
French President Francois Hollande that
France would send troops to the northern
Mali region where insurgents have
terrorized the region during a ninemonth
uprising against the Malian
government. At the same time, the
Harper government approved sending a
C-17 plane for transport of French military
equipment. The campaign has been
backed by much of the Western world
and praised by the Malian government
but what about Syria?
As the world has mostly turned a
blind eye to the almost two-year uprising
in Syria, tens of thousands have been
slaughtered by their own leader,
President Bashar Al-Assad and the actions
taken by the Western world have
been trivial at best as have the actions of
the UN and its secretary general, Ban-Ki
Moon. While all they offer is condemnation,
finger wagging and a failed attempt
at a ceasefire, the Syrian opposition has
been on its knees to a more powerful
militarily, and technologically superior
Syrian government. As talks are constantly
stalled by the Security Council
and the inefficiencies of the United
the problem would be solved. He then
proceeded to run Acunetix, a web vulnerability
scanner, on the Omnivox server
from his own house to make sure the bug
had been fixed. Acunetix is only meant to
be used by a server’s administrator, and
shouldn’t be used on live servers because
it can cause them to crash, which Hamed
did. It’s only then that he got in trouble.
At this point, the story degenerates
into “he-said-she-said.” Hamed claims
that he was never sent a Cease and Desist
letter from Dawson, and that he didn’t use
a proxy when running Acunetix because
he believed he was doing the right thing
by trying to protect students’ information.
Dawson stands by their statement that he
breached their Code of Conduct.
As a Computer Science student myself,
I have no sympathy for Hamed being
expelled. He should have trusted Dawson
to make sure that Skytech, the company
that maintains Omnivox, would fix their
bug, and he definitely knew that running
a web vulnerability scanner on their live
server was ethically questionable at best,
as well as a large risk for himself. If all of
his past marks at Cégep have been replaced
with zeros, then that’s definitely
wrong of the college because it essentially
Nations and we wait on political leaders
to act, Assad is not waiting for anything
and his systematic slaughter of thousands
is still ongoing. Diplomatic efforts
when it comes to dealing with Assad are
therefore futile attempts. That is the reality
we must all face. Only action will
solve the crisis in Syria.
Some may argue that the international
political scene in Syria remains
too fragile to take action but this seems
like a poor excuse for the apathy of the
international community and its hypocrisy
in its reluctance to recognize the
massive suffering of the Syrian people.
Hollande continues to say: “France will
always be there when the rights of a people,
those of Mali who want to live freely
and in a democracy, are at issue” and
that France will stay “as long as necessary”
but are the Syrians not demanding
the same thing? Why is their suffering
lesser than the Malians? At the very least
the UN and NATO could implement a
no-fly zone as a safe haven for refugees
as they did in Libya, something the
Syrian opposition has been demanding
for months. This would allow many refugees
the safety they need to flee the
country and would at least hinder the
killings of the Assad government. If democracy
remains such an important
destroys his future in Computer Science.
However, if he simply received zeros for
all of his classes in progress and received a
transcript note about his unprofessional
conduct, then once again, tough luck. The
college has a responsibility to alert other
potential schools of his questionable
decision-making.
The bottom line is that nothing is
black and white. Hamed, Skytech and
Dawson all did both good and bad things.
While Hamed found this flaw and reported
it instead of exploiting it for potential
gain, what he did afterward was highly
issue for the West, why are they not trying
to uphold it abroad?
Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep
Tayyip Erdogan, suggested last week another
reason--that perhaps the upkeep
of democracy is not the main agenda of
France or the West but resources and
national interests saying: “Why don’t
they go to Syria? Because there is neither
oil nor gold there. There are only
people fighting for their freedom.” There
is also a significant uranium supply in
Mali that France does not want to lose
debatable. Skytech’s CEO first threatened
Hamed personally with legal action, the
company later offered Hamed a scholarship
due to the fallout of the
situation—although likely to save face.
Dawson in particular was in a tough spot,
but while their international image has
taken a hit, they followed their preexisting
policies.
What I took away from this story had
little to do with the story and more to do
with the media: before grabbing your
pitchfork and jumping on the bandwagon,
don’t forget to read between the lines.
control of. Libya also contains the largest
oil reserves in Africa and the fifth
largest oil reserves in the world.
Whatever the reason may be for the
lack of action by the international community,
the fact remains: hundreds are
being slaughtered daily and Assad will
not listen to the demands of the West or
the cries of terror of the innocent
Syrians. Action must inevitably be taken
or the very livelihoods of the Syrian
people will be at stake and tens of thousands
more will die.
2012: A year in gaming
Constantino “Tino” Montelli
Games & Tech Editor
2012 for the video game indutry has been a
great year. Not one, but two different consoles
were released. The Playstation Vita was released
in February and since then has great games like
Uncharted: Golden Abyss, WipeOut 2048,
Gravity Rush, and Assassin Creed III: Liberation.
The Nintendo Wii U came out in November and
their launch titles included: Nintendo Land,
New Super Mario Bros. U, ZombiU and finally
getting those great third-party games like Mass
Effect 3, Assassin Creed III, Batman Arkarm
City and more.
But 2012 was the year that the Wii has
closed it’s doors. The last great games made for
the system were Rhythm Heaven Fever, Mario
Party 9, Kirby’s Dream Collection, Xenoblade
Chronicles and The Last Story. The last two were
part of Operation Rainfall: a campaign to get
Japanese games made available in North
America.
The 3DS has had a lot of great games that
came out like Resident Evil: Revelations, Kid
Icarus: Uprising, Mario Tennis Open, New
Super Mario Bros. 2, Paper Mario: Sticker Star,
and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
We also saw a lot of sequels during 2012
.With great sequels to games like Prototype 2,
Max Payne 3, Darksiders II, Tekken Tag
Tournament 2, Borderlands 2, Dead or Alive 5,
DMC: The reboot
Zack Duma
Editor-in-Cheif
Early in January, the first game release of
the year was quick to be announced, Devil May
Cry 5.
The Devil May Cry series is about Dante, a
delinquent who has no respect for authority
and generally only cares about partying and
getting loaded. That is when he isn’t being
dragged into limbo and having his life terrorised
by demons. You see, Dante is the son of
Sparta, a demon lord who fought, ruled and
lived alongside his brother Mundus, the main
villain in this new DMC. So now because Sparta
betrayed Mundus at some point in the past,
Mundus is now trying to torture Dante and imprison
him forever in limbo, or at the very least
kill him.
This game particularly focuses on Dante
finding out more about his past, particularly his
family, since he was separated from all of them
when he was very young. But now everything
and everyone is coming after him once again,
and so he has vowed to kill Mundus once and
for all. For being an early year release it is surprisingly
good. First off, the game looks good
art wise. Looking at the in-game art, you can
see that a lot of work was put into making the
game look awesome. It’s extremely colourful,
the designers really made use of red and blue
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 | Volume 42, Issue 08- 10..
Resident Evil 6, Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops
II, and Far Cry 3.
It was also the year that new IPs were made
like Asura’s Wrath, Lollipop Chainsaw, Sleeping
Dogs and Dishonored. It was also the year that
brought back old IPs like Twisted Metal, Need
for Speed: Most Wanted, Hitman: Absolution
and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. This year was
also the year of interesting crossovers like Street
Fighter X Tekken, Pokemon Conquest, Sonic &
All-Stars Racing Transformed and PlayStation
All-Stars Battle Royale.
PC gaming is still alive and better then ever
with games like World of Warcraft: Mists of
Pandaria, Guild Wars 2, Diablo III, The Binding
of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb, Counter-Strike:
Global Offensive, Black Mesa, Chivalry:
shades representing angels and demons.
Also what I notice is that they made the
the real world look very grey and then the colour
would really pop in when he is pulled into
limbo. Game play wise, this game has a fairly
basic play style. It’s a simple hack and slash third
person play style. It also has its own platform/
parkour areas. Unless you absolutely hate playing
in the third person, it’s a pretty fun game.
The main problem with the game is that,
like most games now, this one has its fair share
of side missions. The problem is that the missions
are fairly repetitive and thus can become
boring and then other side missions require
way more effort than it’s worth. Another issue is
Medieval Warfare and the ARMA mod, DayZ.
This was the year that gaming embraced
indie games that pushed the envelope for new,
unique experiences like Papa & Yo, Skullgirls,
Mark of the Ninja, Retro City Rampage, The
Unfinished Swan, Fez, Little Inferno and
Journey.
Last year was also a year of controversy too.
The announcement of the new Tomb Raider has
brought up a lot of questions about how it touch
upon gender issues. Diablo III and the Error 37
debacle. Bayonetta 2 being a WiiU exclusive.
Capcom on-disc DLC, the rise and fall of 38
Studios; the people that made Kingdoms of
Amalur: Reckoning, the Mass Effect 3 ending,
two ARMA 3 developers falsely imprisoned in
Greece and The WarZ Scandal which not only
that the game is easy, in the past these games
were said to be extremely difficult, even on the
hardest difficulty this game is not very challenging.
Something I really liked in the game though
is the fact that you can customize your load out.
It’s just good for games to have this so that a
player can make the character to their liking.
The game overall is really fun to play; I
would hope that there is some sort of harder
difficulty when you beat the game, so it’s more
interesting to play through the game a second
or third time. In the end, I wouldn’t really buy
the game for a full sixty bucks, but I still would
be interested to see how it compares with the
new God of War when it comes out.
ripped off the DayZ mod, but ripped off consumers
as well.
But it was also the year that two games
broke new ground in terms of what gamers
want. Two game of the year contenders that has
made an impact are Journey and The Walking
Dead. The first is a Playstation Network exclusive
downloadable game that has captured the
attention of gamers that not only has a unique
style but premise too. You play as this cloak figure
that goes on a journey (pun intended) and
along the way meet people in the game online.
You don’t know who the person is and you can’t
talk to that person except using beeps to communicate.
The game is one of a kind and if you
have the chance to, get it. The other game, The
Walking Dead, is based off of the graphic novel
and TV series. The game has its own contained
story set in the Walking Dead universe as you
play a man named Lee Everett, who was a university
professor and convicted murderer. He
helps to rescue and subsequently care for a
young girl named Clementine. The game is a
point-and click adventure and focuses mostly
on the story. The game was originally released in
episodic format and now you can buy all five
episodes on disc or through Steam. The studio
that made this game plans on making a sequel to
this game and hopefully will be as successful as
this one.
So if there is one word to describe 2012 for
video games it would be “Amazing”.
Did you have fun last year? Did
you play some awesome games last
year too?
Well here is some of the
Bandersnatch’s staff favourite
games they played last year!
Minecraft
Bonderlands 2
Assassins Creed III
Rayman Origins
Far Cry 3
Madden NFL
Portal 2
Are the Habs playoff-bound?
Matthew Shanahan
Staff Writer
A horrible first game back from the
NHL Lockout against the Toronto Maple
Leafs left many Habs fans wondering if
this would be the beginning of another
frustrating season resulting in missing
the playoffs for the second straight year
and the first time since their 3-year absence
from the playoffs from 1999
through 2001. But the first eight games of
the Montreal Canadiens’ regular season
have proven otherwise. They currently
post a 6-2-0 record after coming off backto-back
wins on the Super bowl weekend.
This not only puts the Habs in fourth
place in the Eastern Conference heading
into Tuesday’s action, but gives them a
chance to take over top spot in the
Northeast division when they host the
Boston Bruins on Wednesday night at the
Bell Centre.
This great start to the year has
shocked many hockey experts and analysts
across the league, many of whom
predicted the Habs to finish near the bottom
of the pack like last year, somewhere
between 12th and 13th place in the
Eastern Conference. But if the Habs have
Ravens soar over Niners in the HarBowl
Casey Dulson
Sports Editor
With Casey Dulson
The Super Bowl had everything a
football fan could want . There was a fake
field goal that came up short by a yard, a
22 point comeback in one half, a dominant
performance by both Qb’s, a close
game keeping everyone at the edge of
their seats (especially at the end), a 108
yard kick return and my favorite thing
about the game, a blackout and NFL legend
goes out as a winner.
The reasons why the Niners didn’t
win the Super bowl: The Niners in the
first half were pitiful, they couldn’t get
any touchdowns; they had many drives
and couldn’t capitalise although they had
two field goals. The first one was in the
first quarter which was at 36 yards by
David Akers and another one to end the
first half. Then in the second half a miracle
happened as the Niners scored 22
unanswered points led by quarterback
Colin Kaerpernick and offensive stars
Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and
Frank Gore. Another thing that helped
the comeback was a Ray Rice fumble and
Ravens belief in the prevent defence
which allowed the Niners to complete
long passes and it was easy yardage for
the Niners. Another reason why the
Niners lost was the fact that with a chance
to win the Super Bowl they made horrible
gameplan which was conservative. An
proven anything so far, it is that their goal
is not just to make the playoffs, but to
compete for the division title.Their first
test will be when they take on the Bruins
Wednesday night. Although the Habs are
striving for bigger and better things these
past eight games, the big question still remains:
Are the Habs playoff-bound this
year? Is it possible for a team that finished
dead-last in the Eastern Conference less
than a year ago to make it?
Anything is possible. For instance,
both the Carolina Hurricanes and the
Edmonton Oilers missed the playoffs in
2007 after reaching the Stanley Cup final
only the year before in 2006. Surely there
is hope for Habs fans, so let’s look at the
factors that will determine the fate of the
Habs’ playoff chances this year. First, in
the 48-game schedule that we have this
year, injuries are much more likely to occur.
The Habs have been relatively lucky
these first eight games. Their best forward
last season, Max Pacioretty,
underwent an emergency appendectomy
that should have kept him out for 3-4
weeks, but he made one of the most remarkable
recoveries I have ever witnessed
in professional sports and played only
eight days later against the Ottawa
example of this could be seen in the last
two minutes of the game where the
Niners were on Ravens 10 yard line and
kept the ball on the ground for the first
two plays and the last two were
Kaerpernick throwing to the end zone.
The third down play was Kaerpernick
scrambling and causing him to be almost
picked off. His last pass of the game was a
controversial one because people claimed
that there was a holding call against the
Ravens but the Refs would have never
called because it wasn’t that obvious and
refs rarely call that big of a call in big
games. Another reason why the Niners
lost, was their undisciplined tacking and
bad penalties. Interesting fact! The 49ers
had a 300 yard passer, two 100 yard recievers
and one 100 yard rusher.
Why the Ravens are Super Bowl
champs: The Ravens dominated the first
half of the game and Flacco played the
best game of his career. He was very mobile
in the pocket and was throwing
passes that shouldn’t have been completed
but were due to the height advantage
of Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin. The
Ravens playbook was all about Flacco
throwing the football which was something
the Ravens only started doing in the
later weeks of the season after they had
fired their OC Cam Cameron. Flacco had
all three of his touchdowns in the first
half of the game. His last touchdown pass
will be remembered in super bowl history
Senators, and assisted on the Habs’ first
goal only minutes into the game.
The second factor is momentum.
Currently, they are riding a lot of momentum,
having won six of their first
eight games, but losing a couple of games
in a row could put a dent in the Habs’
motivation. And they will have a couple
of losing streaks throughout the year,
which will put a real test to the character
of the team.
The final factor for the Habs postseason
chances are if the youngsters,
18-year-old phenomenon Alex
because he threw a pass to Jacoby Jones
for 56 yards in which Jones somehow ran
away from the Niners’ Chris Cuilver who
couldn’t tackle him. Then Jones started
the third quarter opening kickoff for 108
yards to the end zone which tied an nfl
record. Ravens had a goaline stand to
stop the Niners from scoring the game
winning touchdown. Final statics for Joe
cool , he had 287 yards for three touchdowns
and won Super Bowl MVP, which
guaranteed him a visit to Disney land and
David Letterman on Monday. Flacco also
tied the great Joe Montana with a postseason
record of eleven touchdowns
without any interceptions.
Ray Lewis, one of the greatest linebackers
in nfl history closed out his career
with 6 tackles and was invisible throughout
the game and this was his last hurrah.
Galchenyuk and 19 year-old Brendan
Gallagher can keep up their solid offensive
firepower. Galchenyuk has 7 points
in his first 8 games while Gallagher has 5
points in 7 games so far this season. This
is a young dynamic duo that most Habs
fans didn’t expect at the beginning of the
season.
If these factors stay in the Habs favour,
they will surely make the playoffs. If
not, things could get interesting down the
road, but with a hot start to the year, the
Habs are nearly guaranteed to be fighting
for a playoff spot in April.
However his life off the field was haunted
by a 2001 bar fight in which Lewis was
accused of killing two people and was
freed after he testified against the other
suspects. He was jailed for twelve months
for the crime.
We also had a blackout that lasted for
33 minutes and what made the blackout
fun was the Twitter comments and not
hearing Phil Simms voice for a couple of
minutes.
Congratulations to the Ravens, who
overcame adversity of two deaths during
their fairy -tale season, one of Torrey
Smith’s brother and the other former
Ravens owner, Art Modell. While people
scoffled at his comments at the beginning
of the season, Flacco could finally be considered
an elite quarterback after having
won the Super Bowl and it’s MVP.
