TUESDAY 16 PROJECT LABS WORLD FOOD DAY | PROJECT LABS 17:30 – 18:30 Voluntary Guidelines on Land Tenure Project Lab 1 Magdalena Kropiwnicka, Consultant Paul Mathieu, Senior Land Tenure Officer, Natural Resources Management and Environment Department, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO FAO and its partners supported the preparation of ‘Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security’. These Guidelines have been prepared and negotiated through a participatory process since 2009, and endorsed in May 2012 by the Committee on World Food Security. They are the first intergovernmental comprehensive global instrument on tenure and its administration. They provide guidance for improving the institutions that regulate tenure rights; for enhancing equitable tenure rights and the administration of tenure systems; and for improving the capacities of organisations concerned with governance of tenure. PRESS CONFERENCE ROOM | WORLD FOOD DAY 13:30 – 14:30 World Disasters Report 2012 – Press Forced Migration and Displacement Conference IFRC Global Launch Room As an expression of their long-standing partnership, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection – ECHO will host the launch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ flagship publication, the World Disasters Report 2012. This year’s 20th edition, which also coincides with ECHO’s 20th anniversary, will focus on Forced Migration and Displacement. It discusses the contemporary causes and consequences of forced migration associated with different displacement situations (conflict, natural hazard, economic development displacement) and their impact on the health, dignity and rights of migrants. This session will look at ways to provide support that is designed to empower migrants and help them become valued members of their communities. Calculated each year, the GHI highlights the successes and failures in hunger reduction and provides insights into the drivers of hunger. The 2012 GHI report focuses on how to ensure sustainable food security under water, land, and energy stress. Recent events underline the scarcity of resources to produce the world s food. It is increasingly clear that sustainably feeding 9 billion people will require a much more careful and integrated approach to the use of land, water, and energy than we currently apply.
