Access to basic guarantees of social protection is a human right and a way of<br />
reducing inequalities and ensuring resilience. Recent crises confirm the need<br />
to complement economic growth with social measures to warrant inclusive<br />
and sustainable development, reduce poverty and vulnerability. France put<br />
social protection at the forefront of its G20 Presidency. In 2012, the World Bank<br />
adopted a Strategy on Social Protection, the International Labour Organization<br />
developed the Social Protection Floors approach highlighting the role of social<br />
dialogue, freedom of association and collective bargaining. The EU just adopted<br />
a Communication on social protection in development policy. This panel offers<br />
an open platform to discuss social protection in development policies, focusing<br />
on implementation in the field.<br />
