FOREWORD Examinations are not merely means of certification but act as tools of quality control in the teaching learning process. The examination paper is based on the examination specifications which are brought out in the curriculum document for each year. Keeping in view the unavoidable character of examinations it is imperative that students and teachers familiarize themselves with the main features of question papers which form the basis of the written examination. There has been felt a need to produce Sample Question Papers in English and in Hindi in the last few years. The Committee of Courses in the subjects alongwith practicing teachers have helped to design the Sample Question Papers. The sample paper is a useful device in the hands of teachers and learners. It broadly reflects the pattern of the question paper that may appear in the annual examination. This pattern reflects the weightage assigned to different components of testing and types of questions represented by the design of the question paper. It also reveals the general nature of the questions, their style, their depth, their expanse, which also play a significant role in influencing the performance of students. The different kinds of questions such as long questions, short questions and very short questions also form a part of the sample paper. The English question papers are divided into sections, which test the skills of reading comprehension, writing and appreciation of literature. There are two sets of question papers in English Core and Functional English. There are also two sets for Hindi Core and Hindi Elective and two for Sanskrit Core and Sanskrit Elective. I take this opportunity to thank the committee of courses and practicing teachers who participated in the workshops to prepare the Sample Question Papers in English, Hindi and Sanskrit. I also take this opportunity to thank the former Director (Academic), Sh. G. Balasubramanian and Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Education Officer for bringing out this document. It is hoped that this document will help students and teachers to prepare for the Board Examination. Comments and suggestions for further improvement are most welcome. (iii) Ashok Ganguly Chairman
