n Maintain genetic variability as in wilderness

n Traditional conservation - inbreeding of the existing captive population in
zoos for several generation
n Zoos regionally need to collaborate and pool their resources for breeding
programme
n Raise stock suitable for reintroduction - contains maximum genetic diversity
as in wild

n Zoos mandate not limited to captive breeding but extends to linking
in-situ and ex-situ conservation-species and habitat management
n Assembled a number of species without clear collection and breeding plan
n Inadequate space-animal> Carrying capacity
n Insufficient enclosure enrichment and with surplus population
n Animal collection is mainly for exhibition education, learning and recreation
n Used as reserve centres for orphaned rescued animals
