goals to make it an useful document. It is not meant just to satisfy the<br />

requirement <strong>of</strong> Recognition <strong>of</strong> <strong>Zoo</strong> Rules<br />

It should be able provide guidance for<br />

n Modernizing the zoo with latest zoo concept.<br />

n Save money, time and energy.<br />

n Should provide excellent ambience for animals & visitors.<br />

n Provide scientific information to visitors<br />

The <strong>Master</strong> plan should prioritize its goals keeping in view<br />

n Land available.<br />

n Financial support anticipated.<br />

n Landscape.<br />

n Climate.<br />

n Existing technical capability.<br />

n Anticipated flow <strong>of</strong> visitors.<br />

n Staffing pattern (Administrative setup) .<br />

This will be different for new/existing zoo.<br />

The priority shall be different according to the objective/theme<br />

The first priority will be a proper layout plan keeping in mind<br />

n Available land area<br />

n Topographical features<br />

n Approach/Existing Roads/Paths<br />

n Existing structures<br />

n Vegetation<br />

n Water bodies<br />

n Collection plan<br />

n Visitation<br />

Animal Collection Plan shall very strongly influence the master plan which shall<br />

depend on<br />

n Climate<br />

n Animal species found locally in the wild.<br />

n Veterinary facility including specialized treatment available.<br />

n Funds/Space for suitable exhibit.<br />

n Skill & experience to handle particular endangered species.<br />

n Funds for feed & up keep<br />

n Availability <strong>of</strong> surplus stock available with other zoo to procure<br />
