Sadhana - spiritual disciplines practiced by an aspirant.<br />
Samadhi - trance; intense application of the mind to an object; fourth<br />
and last stage of dhyana; the super conscious state in which a person<br />
experiences his identity with ultimate reality. According to Patanjali, it<br />
is a state in which "the true nature of the object shines forth, not<br />
distorted by the mind of the perceiver." There are different types of<br />
Samadhis described in the scriptures: Ananda samadhi - blissful<br />
samadhi. Bhava Samadhi – a state of ecstasy in which the sole<br />
modification in mind is the consciousness of one's relationship with<br />
God. Nirvikalpa samadhi - the highest state of samadhi, in which the<br />
aspirant realizes his total oneness with Brahman. Savikalpa samadhi -<br />
a super - conscious state attended with self-consciousness in which the<br />
mind takes the form of Brahman and rests on it, but does not<br />
completely merge the distinctions between the one who knows,<br />
knowledge, and the object of knowledge.<br />
Samskara - a deep mental impression produced in past experiences; a<br />
mental or behavioral complex; an impression or tendency created in the<br />
mind of a person as a result of an action or thought; a thing considered<br />
an object in consciousness.<br />
Sat - Chid - Ananda - absolute existence, absolute consciousness, and<br />
absolute bliss. A term used to describe Brahman.<br />
Satsang - The spiritual companionship of those who encourage and<br />
share spiritual aspirations.<br />
Shakti - the power of Brahman in its functions of creation,<br />
preservation, and dissolution of the universe, personified as the Mother<br />
