10. Saadhana (Spiritual Discipline)<br />
Until wisdom enlightens us we need Saadhana. By Saadhana we can<br />
correct our faults and mould our excellence, ensure peace for ourselves,<br />
for society, for the country and for the world. Success in Saadhana<br />
depends on self control and sense control. In Saadhana inner silence is<br />
important. Do not project on the mind irrelevant details and pollute it with<br />
fumes of envy, greed and anger. Do not agitate it with non-stop dialogue.<br />
There are several spiritual disciplines one can engage in, scriptures<br />
advice that the criteria in selecting the most suited path of Saadhana<br />
should be based on interest, individual nature and individual goal.<br />
In the meditation Baba told her "ask children to give me 5 minutes a<br />
day". In regards to this subject she was lead to the book that got her the<br />
following in Sathya Sai Baba's words "You have the great responsibility<br />
of motherhood and the duty of educating your children into strong and<br />
good citizens. Along with the University degree, they must acquire<br />
spiritual training through spiritual discipline to bring out the beauty of<br />
character and of conduct, which in turn will stand them in good stead later<br />
in life." She was asked to do her dharma as a parent and put the children<br />
to a simple 5 minute a day spiritual discipline.<br />
Prior to her experiences, she enjoyed her worldly pleasures and its<br />
humdrum. She equated the peace and calmness to not have anything to do<br />
problem, and that meant boredom and not something to go after and seek<br />
voluntarily. Similarly, 'joy' to her meant having fun in life. Exploring the<br />
world was the field she thought should be considered available for<br />
enjoyment. By that definition we always came up with more things to do<br />
than the time available, and, doing meditation, bhajans, reading scriptures<br />
never made it to our 'to do' list. After getting a flavor of the inner peace, a<br />
longer lasting joy and an overall harmony in life, she wonders how did<br />
she do without it for so long. We don't know how it works but her peace,<br />
joy and harmony is rubbing off on the rest of us also.<br />
It seems that among prescribed virtues surrender, dissolving ego,<br />
equanimity and selfless love play a major role in bringing peace, joy and<br />
