The above statement of Baba makes so much more sense in the light<br />

of her personal experience where she was seeing with her eyes closed the<br />

illumined pictures of the deities. Relating to these illumined pictures<br />

Baba said "Shivangini, this is the effulgence of your Atman which is<br />

illuminating the objects that you see lit up. And that is the reason for<br />

being able to see it without senses, the eyes."<br />

Jnana Yoga (the path of knowledge or wisdom)<br />

Prior to her Inner Experiences our knowledge of the scriptures was<br />

almost absent. As stated in previous sections, during her experience<br />

phase all types of scriptures started flowing her way from the least<br />

expected sources. The amount of reading that she ended up doing was<br />

more than the total sum she had done in her whole life to date. That level<br />

of reading on her part while carrying a full load responsibility of<br />

professional career, home, and children was a miracle in itself.<br />

She sorted through a lot, took help from this book mentioned above by<br />

Shakunthala Jagannathan, and of course the constant help of her Sadguru<br />

resulted in our understanding of the Jnana Yoga as summarized below:<br />

Jnana Yoga is not mere knowledge but spiritual enlightenment<br />

achieved through the intuitive intellect, in its sublime and evolved form.<br />

In the beginning the aspirant reads and analyzes the knowledge of<br />

scriptures, meditates and contemplates the concepts. Since Hinduism is<br />

not based on any single book or on the words of single prophet, there are<br />

literally thousands of books to guide both the beginners and the scholars.<br />

The first and the most ancient set of books called Vedas were handed<br />

down orally from teacher to disciple and they are referred to as Shrutis<br />

which means "to hear". Vedas are known as the voice of Rishis and are<br />

believed to be of Divine origin. It is said that the knowledge of the<br />

physical sciences is derived from the sense organs; knowledge of Vedas<br />
