music. In one of the books she read that best time for meditation is the<br />

quiet hours before dawn, between 3 and 5 AM. This time in the Vedas is<br />

referred to as Brahma muhurta time.<br />

Methods of meditation:<br />

Through her experience she realized that there were differences in the<br />

types of meditation she had gone through and is going through, she also<br />

knew that she had followed some do's & don'ts and methods of<br />

meditation but we were not able to sort all that in any meaningful way.<br />

While writing this book the help appeared in the form of this book<br />

"Meditation and Spiritual Life" by….which described several aspects of<br />

meditation, which in the nutshell state<br />

1) All concentration is not meditation. When the outgoing tendencies<br />

are controlled and the mind flows continuously as current in the<br />

contemplation of God, it is real meditation or Dhyana.<br />

Concentration by itself may not have any spiritual value.<br />

2) Need for discipline. Follow one course definitely, step by step,<br />

without vacillating. A certain definite system of discipline<br />

followed with great doggedness and tenacity is very important.<br />

3) Need for purification of mind. If you attempt meditation without<br />

having attained purity of mind, you are likely to concentrate more<br />

on the impurities of the mind than on God. The higher centers must<br />

open in order to enable the aspirant to dwell on higher thoughts<br />

long. Here comes the importance of prayer and doing good work<br />

4) Posture (asana): Patanjali prescribes any posture that is steady and<br />

pleasant. However, a lotus posture and few variations of it have<br />

been described in other books (In meditation, on February 3, Baba<br />

had emphasized the importance of asana and mainly the point of<br />

keeping spine, neck, and head straight and aligned).<br />

5) Rhythmic breathing: Mind and breath are always interrelated and<br />

act on each other. With simple regulated breathing give intense<br />

suggestion to your mind like inhale peace & exhale mental<br />

disturbances, inhale strength & exhale weakness/ fear. Inhale<br />

purity exhale impurity and fill yourself with purity.<br />

6) Content of meditation: Meditation must have some definite,<br />

positive spiritual content (once when she was considering focusing<br />
