PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Our Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a
Pancake Breakfast in O’Dea Hall (eggs,
sausage, pancakes, juice, coffee and tea) next
Sunday, October 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12
noon. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for
children 12 and under. Have breakfast while
attending Ministry Day—same place, same
time!!!
USHERS
Additional ushers are needed for the 5 p.m.
Mass on Saturday and for the 11:30 a.m. Mass
on Sunday. Our head ushers are: 5 p.m.—

K OF C FOOD DRIVE
Our Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a
Food Drive during the month of October.
Please bring non-perishable food items with
you to weekend Mass. Just one item per
family will be a great help.
13TH ANNUAL DINNER DANCE
Tickets are now available for our 13th Annual
Dinner Dance benefitting our Renovation
Fund. The dance will take place on Saturday,
November 12, at the St. Demetrius Hall in
Carteret. Tickets are $55 per person. Call Flor

BUS TRIP TO ATLANTIC CITY
Our Seniors are sponsoring a bus trip to the
Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City on
Wednesday, October 26. The bus will leave
the church parking lot at 10 a.m. The cost is
$25. You will get $20 back plus a $5 food

2011 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
In Faith, With Hope

supports programs that foster vocations and
provide ongoing formation for those called to
ordained and lay leadership roles within the

retired priests who have served so faithfully
will receive suitable care in their later years.

SOCIAL CONCERNS
CLOTHING DRIVE
The next Clothing Drive sponsored by St.
Bernadette’s Social Concerns Committee will
take place on Saturday, October 22, from 9
a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the
church near Lourdes Center. Clothing and
toys collected are shipped to Poland, Republic
of Georgia, Ghana, Liberia, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Haiti, India, etc. The clothing is
sold at local markets and thrift stores at low,
affordable prices. All wearable clothing is
being shipped out for people to wear. Nothing
is shredded or cut into industrial rags.
Donations of clean, usable clothing, bags,
belts, stuffed animals, hard toys, ( no larger
than 24”x24”x21”) blankets, pillows, curtains,
towels, drapes, bedspreads and sheets may be
placed in plastic bags only and brought to the
parking lot. Bicycles are also needed. If you
are able to donate shoes, we ask you to please
put them in a separate bag marked “shoes”.
Receipts will be available for tax purposes.
Proceeds from this Clothing Drive benefit
local families in need. If you have any

THANK YOU
Thank you for your Poor Box donations for the
month of September which amounted to $282,
for the Social Concerns envelope donations of
$1,098 and for $40 in Food Cards. Remember,
every Sunday is Pantry Sunday.

MINISTRY SUNDAY
Next Sunday, October 16, all are invited to be
part of our Ministry Sunday taking place in
O’Dea Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon.
Representatives from all parish ministries and
organizations will be on hand to greet you and
to tell you all about their organization’s
charities, activities, meetings, fund raisers, etc.
Even if you can’t make a commitment to
become part of a ministry, we ask that you
please consider offering your services on an
availability basis.
Our Knights of Columbus will sponsor a
Pancake Breakfast at the same time, so why
not enjoy some delicious food while learning
more about becoming more involved in parish
life.
FLEA MARKET
Our Altar Rosary Society is once again
sponsoring its annual Flea Market on Saturday,
November 5, in O’Dea Hall from 9 a.m. until 3
p.m. Tables are $20 each or two for $35.

BLESSING OF ANIMALS
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi,
the Blessing of Animals will take place this
Sunday, October 9, immediately following the
11:30 a.m. Mass in front of Lourdes Center.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY
We are looking to do the Children’s Liturgy
every week. In order to do that, we will need
additional volunteers to teach. If you are
interested or wish to learn more about it,

ST. BERNADETTE’S CHURCH
RENOVATION FUNDRAISER
St. Bernadette’s Altar Rosary Society and
Columbiettes are sponsoring a fundraiser
during the month of October. “Donations” of
jewelry, gold, silver, platinum, chains,
bracelets, single earrings, charms, rings,
watches, cufflinks and costume jewelry will be
accepted in any condition. Donations of
foreign coins and paper currency will also be
appreciated. Items may be placed in the
special receptacles located at the doors of the
church. If you have any questions, please call

RCIA
Who comes to RCIA? Anybody and
everybody! Some of the most common
reasons people attend RCIA are as follows:
A personal call to join the Catholic Church,
whether baptized in the Catholic Church, in
another church, or never baptized.
A spouse of a member of the Catholic Church
who desires to create harmony in the family by
becoming a Catholic.
someone who is planning marriage to a
Catholic, and is considering joining the
Catholic Church to bring unity to the marriage.
An individual who was baptized Catholic, but
has not received the Sacraments of Holy
Eucharist or Confirmation; or who has stopped
practicing the Catholic Faith and wishes to
begin again.
Any Catholic who wishes to expand their
knowledge of their faith or any non-Catholic
who wishes to learn more about the Catholic

“IT’S OKAY TO SAY
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME”
Our Catholic Daughters will begin selling “It’s
Okay to Say Merry Christmas to Me” buttons
from October 16 to December 18 in the
vestibule of the church at a cost of $2 each.
Last year over 900 buttons were sold!

and older who are in good standing with the

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Our Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a
Membership Drive this weekend, October 8 &
9, after all Masses at the doors of the church.
Membership is open to all men of the parish 18

The annual World Mission Sunday collection

30TH ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE

THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL?
Part 9
How will the faithful learn the new prayers
and responses when the new Missal is finally
implemented?
The new “Missal” has finally been approved.
Materials for assisting clergy, diocesan and
parish leaders in implementing the revised
Missal in parishes have been ordered. A
training program is already scheduled in
November. As plans and materials take
concrete shape, we will continue to
communicate that information to our diocesan
family. Plans will also be updated on our
diocesan website, wwwdiometuchen.org,
under the Department of Worship and
Liturgical Formation.
