PANCAKE BREAKFAST<br />

Our Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a<br />

Pancake Breakfast in O’Dea Hall (eggs,<br />

sausage, pancakes, juice, coffee and tea) next<br />

Sunday, October 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12<br />

noon. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for<br />

children 12 and under. Have breakfast while<br />

attending Ministry Day—same place, same<br />

time!!!<br />

Additional ushers are needed for the 5 p.m.<br />

13TH ANNUAL DINNER DANCE<br />

Tickets are now available for our 13th Annual<br />

Dinner Dance benefitting our Renovation<br />

Fund. The dance will take place on Saturday,<br />

November 12, at the St. Demetrius Hall in<br />

BUS TRIP TO ATLANTIC CITY<br />

Our Seniors are sponsoring a bus trip to the<br />

Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City on<br />

Wednesday, October 26. The bus will leave<br />

the church parking lot at 10 a.m. The cost is<br />

$25. You will get $20 back plus a $5 food<br />

2011 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL<br />

In Faith, With Hope<br />

Your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal<br />

supports programs that foster vocations and<br />

provide ongoing formation for those called to<br />

ordained and lay leadership roles within the<br />

<strong>Church</strong>. Your generosity also ensures that our<br />

SOCIAL CONCERNS<br />

CLOTHING DRIVE<br />

The next Clothing Drive sponsored by St.<br />

<strong>Bernadette</strong>’s Social Concerns Committee will<br />

take place on Saturday, October 22, from 9<br />

a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the<br />

church near Lourdes Center. Clothing and<br />

toys collected are shipped to Poland, Republic<br />

of Georgia, Ghana, Liberia, Honduras,<br />

Nicaragua, Haiti, India, etc. The clothing is<br />

sold at local markets and thrift stores at low,<br />

affordable prices. All wearable clothing is<br />

being shipped out for people to wear. Nothing<br />

is shredded or cut into industrial rags.<br />

Donations of clean, usable clothing, bags,<br />

belts, stuffed animals, hard toys, ( no larger<br />

than 24”x24”x21”) blankets, pillows, curtains,<br />

towels, drapes, bedspreads and sheets may be<br />

placed in plastic bags only and brought to the<br />

parking lot. Bicycles are also needed. If you<br />

are able to donate shoes, we ask you to please<br />

put them in a separate bag marked “shoes”.<br />

Receipts will be available for tax purposes.<br />

Proceeds from this Clothing Drive benefit<br />

local families in need. If you have any<br />

questions, please call JoAnn at 732-727-5858.<br />

THANK YOU<br />

Thank you for your Poor Box donations for the<br />

month of September which amounted to $282,<br />

for the Social Concerns envelope donations of<br />

$1,098 and for $40 in Food Cards. Remember,<br />

every Sunday is Pantry Sunday.

MINISTRY SUNDAY<br />

Next Sunday, October 16, all are invited to be<br />

part of our Ministry Sunday taking place in<br />

O’Dea Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon.<br />

Representatives from all parish ministries and<br />

organizations will be on hand to greet you and<br />

to tell you all about their organization’s<br />

charities, activities, meetings, fund raisers, etc.<br />

Even if you can’t make a commitment to<br />

become part of a ministry, we ask that you<br />

please consider offering your services on an<br />

availability basis.<br />

Our Knights of Columbus will sponsor a<br />

Pancake Breakfast at the same time, so why<br />

not enjoy some delicious food while learning<br />

more about becoming more involved in parish<br />

life.<br />

FLEA MARKET<br />

Our Altar Rosary Society is once again<br />

sponsoring its annual Flea Market on Saturday,<br />

November 5, in O’Dea Hall from 9 a.m. until 3<br />

p.m. Tables are $20 each or two for $35.<br />

BLESSING OF ANIMALS<br />

In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi,<br />

the Blessing of Animals will take place this<br />

Sunday, October 9, immediately following the<br />

11:30 a.m. Mass in front of Lourdes Center.<br />

CHILDREN’S LITURGY<br />

We are looking to do the Children’s Liturgy<br />

every week. In order to do that, we will need<br />

additional volunteers to teach. If you are<br />

interested or wish to learn more about it,<br />

ST. BERNADETTE’S CHURCH<br />

RENOVATION FUNDRAISER<br />

St. <strong>Bernadette</strong>’s Altar Rosary Society and<br />

Columbiettes are sponsoring a fundraiser<br />

during the month of October. “Donations” of<br />

jewelry, gold, silver, platinum, chains,<br />

bracelets, single earrings, charms, rings,<br />

watches, cufflinks and costume jewelry will be<br />

accepted in any condition. Donations of<br />

foreign coins and paper currency will also be<br />

appreciated. Items may be placed in the<br />

special receptacles located at the doors of the<br />

RCIA<br />

Who comes to RCIA? Anybody and<br />

everybody! Some of the most common<br />

reasons people attend RCIA are as follows:<br />

A personal call to join the Catholic <strong>Church</strong>,<br />

whether baptized in the Catholic <strong>Church</strong>, in<br />

another church, or never baptized.<br />

A spouse of a member of the Catholic <strong>Church</strong><br />

who desires to create harmony in the family by<br />

becoming a Catholic.<br />

someone who is planning marriage to a<br />

Catholic, and is considering joining the<br />

Catholic <strong>Church</strong> to bring unity to the marriage.<br />

An individual who was baptized Catholic, but<br />

has not received the Sacraments of Holy<br />

Eucharist or Confirmation; or who has stopped<br />

practicing the Catholic Faith and wishes to<br />

begin again.<br />

“IT’S OKAY TO SAY<br />

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME”<br />

Our Catholic Daughters will begin selling “It’s<br />

Okay to Say Merry Christmas to Me” buttons<br />

from October 16 to December 18 in the<br />

vestibule of the church at a cost of $2 each.<br />

Last year over 900 buttons were sold!

THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL?<br />

Part 9<br />

How will the faithful learn the new prayers<br />

and responses when the new Missal is finally<br />

implemented?<br />

The new “Missal” has finally been approved.<br />

Materials for assisting clergy, diocesan and<br />

parish leaders in implementing the revised<br />

Missal in parishes have been ordered. A<br />

training program is already scheduled in<br />

November. As plans and materials take<br />

concrete shape, we will continue to<br />

communicate that information to our diocesan<br />

family. Plans will also be updated on our<br />

diocesan website, wwwdiometuchen.org,<br />

under the Department of Worship and<br />

Liturgical Formation.<br />
