C. When you get an animal from another Institution, you will give it your<br />

own accession number (even though the other zoo has given it an<br />

accession number as well.<br />

D. When you get an animal from another Institution, you must contact them<br />

and tell them the accession number you have given it. They will enter your<br />

number as part <strong>of</strong> their <strong>records</strong>. You will enter the number as part <strong>of</strong> your<br />

<strong>records</strong>.<br />

E. Both <strong>zoos</strong> will have both numbers.<br />

Accession number must not be duplicated with<strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>stitution, for e.g. if a lion is given<br />

an accession number 50 <strong>in</strong> your zoo it should stay the same dur<strong>in</strong>g its lifetime <strong>in</strong> that zoo.<br />

This number cannot be allotted to any other <strong>in</strong>dividual even after its death or transfer. An<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual can have several identify<strong>in</strong>g numbers dur<strong>in</strong>g its lifetime if it is transferred very<br />

<strong>of</strong>ten from one <strong>in</strong>stitution to other. It will have different accession number at each<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitution where it was held.<br />
