Statement of Problem<br />

This project determines eligibility and establishes a <strong>historic</strong> context <strong>for</strong> the <strong>nomination</strong> of<br />

the Boulevard Park neighborhood to the National Register of Historic Places as a <strong>historic</strong><br />

district, with accompanying <strong>nomination</strong> <strong>for</strong>ms<br />

Sources of Data<br />

City building and plumbing permits, newspaper articles, maps, planning reports, city and<br />

county histories, building surveys, <strong>historic</strong> home tours, newspaper articles and<br />

advertisements, photographs, contemporary works on <strong>historic</strong> preservation, urban history,<br />

gentrification and urban geography.<br />

Conclusions Reached<br />

The Boulevard Park district is eligible <strong>for</strong> listing on the National Register of Historic<br />

Places under Criterion A. Its two <strong>historic</strong> contexts are as a streetcar suburb and “City<br />

Beautiful” neighborhood design, both of which expressed Progressive principles<br />

espousing physical solutions <strong>for</strong> social problems.<br />
