A third National Register bulletin used <strong>for</strong> this <strong>nomination</strong> is Historic Residential<br />

Suburbs: Guidelines <strong>for</strong> Evaluation and Documentation <strong>for</strong> the National Register of<br />

Historic Places. 5 In addition to its function as a guide to identification and description of<br />

residential suburbs <strong>for</strong> National Register <strong>nomination</strong>s, this bulletin is also a National<br />

Register listed Multiple Property Documentation Form, or MPD. MPD <strong>for</strong>ms nominate<br />

groups of related significant properties by identifying the <strong>historic</strong> contexts and property<br />

types associated with those properties. 6<br />

A listed MPD provides a common context <strong>for</strong><br />

subsequent <strong>nomination</strong>s within the scope of the Multiple Property listing. The bulletin’s<br />

associated <strong>historic</strong> context, Suburbanization of Metropolitan Areas in the United States,<br />

1830-1960, allows subsequent <strong>nomination</strong>s of applicable properties to use this already-<br />

listed context instead of establishing a separate context <strong>for</strong> each <strong>nomination</strong>. This process<br />

simplifies the process of establishing significance <strong>for</strong> a nominated property, and allows<br />

the reviewer to focus on the specifics of the property instead of separately establishing a<br />

context that connects the nominated property to larger themes in American history.<br />
