details on some houses in the district. 3<br />
This in<strong>for</strong>mation determined construction dates,<br />
name of original owner, and other data about each house.<br />
Primary and Secondary Sources<br />
Literature survey and <strong>historic</strong> context research was per<strong>for</strong>med concurrently<br />
throughout the project. Review of available literature regarding urban history and <strong>historic</strong><br />
preservation suggested a contemporary approach to district <strong>nomination</strong>. Earlier<br />
preservation and survey methodologies identified <strong>historic</strong> districts as collections of<br />
aesthetically pleasing buildings or specific places associated with significant persons.<br />
Recent works suggested a broader approach, incorporating broader contexts and<br />
connecting local history to <strong>national</strong> patterns of urban development. Research into<br />
neighborhood history identified two applicable <strong>historic</strong> contexts <strong>for</strong> Boulevard Park as a<br />
streetcar suburb, and as a “City Beautiful” neighborhood built around Progressive Era<br />
principles of urban design.<br />
Research <strong>for</strong> the significance statement of the <strong>nomination</strong>, including <strong>historic</strong><br />
context, used both primary and secondary sources. Primary sources consulted include<br />
building and plumbing records, property deeds, documents of covenants, codes and<br />
