degree of integrity. It is eligible <strong>for</strong> listing on the National Register of Historic Places as a<br />
“City Beautiful” neighborhood and a streetcar suburb.<br />
Project Description<br />
The Boulevard Park project is a National Register of Historic Places district<br />
<strong>nomination</strong>. The <strong>nomination</strong> includes a survey of contributing and non-contributing<br />
properties, architectural descriptions and property research, photographs of character-<br />
defining features of the district, a district map, and a statement explaining the<br />
significance of the district within its <strong>historic</strong> context. The <strong>historic</strong> context statement is a<br />
contemporary approach that responds to critical analysis of <strong>historic</strong> districts. The<br />
<strong>nomination</strong> combines primary and secondary source research and architectural survey<br />
techniques to document the history of the neighborhood from a comprehensive and<br />
contemporary perspective.<br />
Methodology<br />
Nomination of the Boulevard Park Historic District to the National Register of<br />
Historic Places began as an internship project undertaken on behalf of the City of<br />
Sacramento’s Preservation Department. The first step was a trip to Stockton, Cali<strong>for</strong>nia to<br />
obtain a set of documents from the University of the Pacific’s archives known as the<br />
“Red Binders.” A group called the Historic Boulevard Park Committee (HBPC) gathered<br />
this collection of articles, surveys, photos, and copies of primary source material between<br />
