In the area of forest policy strategy: – Qualified pilot studies into the real trends in demand for wood of deciduous tree species, and into the efficiency of forest holdings (particularly also to encourage the association of small forest holdings). In the CR they are more then 100,000 forest owners with the forest holding below 2 ha. – A conceptual political study based, e.g., on National orestry Programme of the CR to reveal human society’s participation in the management of forest systems, resulting in sustainable production of goods and services desired by the public at large. OREST ECOSYSTEMS – AN IRREPLACEABLE COMPONENT O THE ENVIRONMENT In the area related to the irreplaceable role of forest ecosystems in the environment, the sub-module dealt with the identification of principal non-wood-producing functions beneficial to the public, and therefore purposecontrolled. As a pre-condition of particular environmental and social services provided by modern forestry, special measures should strengthen the desired financial means to support advisable effects, and suppress or attenuate undesirable factors. Various kinds and intensities of goal-oriented nonwood producing care are needed for 58% of CR’s forest area, and it also refers to 46% of the area of today’s category of the commercial forest. Long-term recommendations To implement the state forestry and environmental policy: – To enrich forestry policies with differentiation of various forest ownership types from the viewpoint of public interest in the forest mission, and to define clearly the policy of subsidies, defrayments of costs and recompenses of activities in favour of public interest. – In the environmental policy, to consider all forest ecosystems as an irreplaceable component of the environment, not only due to their natural essence, but also due to their managed functions which is generally beneficial to the inhabited landscape and human society. To implement the land-use and forestry planning: – To ensure that regional forest development plans (RDP) include an offer of forestry services based on the functional potential of forest ecosystems, and real public demand for particular environmental and social services identified by monitored public interest. Confrontation of the forestry supply with the demands for particular services will enable the establishment of general guidelines for forest management and calculations of capital needed. – To elaborate a system of links between the conceptual (Regional orest Development Plan – RDP) and the working plans (orest Management Plan – MP and orest Management Outline – MO) so that particular projects can be proposed by individual owners and administration of national forests. To facilitate unbiased judgement of national authorities according to real needs passed on the projects, and to encourage also their rational projects taking into account both the efficiency and correctness of the objectives. – To ensure that methodologies, instructions, etc. are developed and compiled for particular functional measures, and by doing so, to promote real designing by owners, real public orders, qualified consultancy and meaningful supervisory activities in the right of recovery of national authorities. Short-term recommendation To amend urgent topics contained in orest Act No. 289/1995, particularly the following ones: – new conception and application of forest categorisation as a tool of state forestry policy and administration (primarily formed as a tool of the forest management), – mission and contents of regional forest development plans (RDP) as common tools of state forestry and environmental policies, – reality-reflecting conception of landscape amelioration, including torrent control, as a service of public interest in the cultural landscape protection, – realistic conception of the care for forest ecosystems in special-category forests, including the forests in large-scale protected areas of nature conservation. To analyse and mutually adjust the problem areas in environmental legislation, which primarily holds for: – Act 292/1991 on the Czech Environmental Inspection with the forest protection competence, which are significant tools in the environmental functions of fo-rests whose role deserves many-sided activities in comparison with the general ecosystem conservation, – final legal solution to the supreme state supervision of the Ministry of Environment, as amended by orest Act No. 289/1995, as to the proper application of incentives resulting from the field operation of the Czech Environmental Inspection, – inclusion of particular beneficial-to-public, environmental and social functions of the forest into the sphere of active interests of the environmental department, also with regard to the needs of human-inhabited cultural landscapes, – analyses of links between Acts No. 17/1992, 114/1992 and 289/1992 so that their application can be based on material truth and not only on general axioms and ideological wishes. INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS The journal publishes original results of fundamental and applied research from all fields of forestry related to European forest ecosystems. An article submitted to Journal of Forest Science must contain original work and must not be under consideration for publishing elsewhere. Manuscripts should not exceed 25 pages (A4 size) including tables, figures, references, abstract and summary. A PC diskette with the paper text and graphical documentation should be provided with the paper manuscript, indicating the used editor program. Papers should be clear, concise and written in English. Correct English is the responsibility of the author. Manuscripts should be typed on standard paper of A4 size. They must fully conform to the organization and style of the journal. Two copies of the manuscripts should be provided. Text Manuscript should be preceded by a title page comprising the title, the complete name(s) of the author(s), the name and address of the institution where the work was done, and the telephone, fax numbers and e-mail of the corresponding author. Each paper must begin with an Abstract of no more than 90 words, and keywords. The Introduction should be concise and define the scope of the work in relation to other work done in the same field. As a rule, it should not give an exhaustive review of literature. In the chapter Materials and Methods, the description of experimental procedures should be sufficient to allow replication of trials. Plants must be identified by taxonomic and common name. Abbreviations should be used if necessary. Full description of abbreviation should follow the first use of an abbreviation. The International System of Units (SI) and their abbreviations should be used. Results should be presented with clarity and precision. Discussion should interpret the results. It is possible to combine Results and Discussion in one section. Literature citations in the text should be by author(s), and year. If there are more than two authors, only the first one should be named in the text, followed by the phrase et al. They should consist of reviewed periodicals. References should include only publications quoted in the text. They should be listed in alphabetical order under the first author's name, citing all authors. Tables Tables should be numbered consecutively and have an explanatory title. Each table, with title, should be on a separate sheet of paper. Figures Figures should be referred solely to the material essential for documentation and for the understanding of the text. Duplicated documentation of data in figures and tables is not acceptable. All illustrative material must be of publishing quality. Figures cannot be redrawn by the publisher. Photographs should exhibit high contrast. All figures should be numbered consecutively with arabi c numerals. Both line drawings and photographs are referred to as figures. Each figure should contain a concise, descriptive legend. The manuscript will not be accepted to be field by the editorial office if its formal layout does not comply with the instructions for authors. POKYNY PRO AUTORY asopis uveejuje pvodní vdecké práce ze vš ech obor lesnictví, které mají vztah k evropským lesním ekosystémm. Autor práce je odpovdný za pvodnost píspvku; práce nesmí být publikována nebo zaslána k publikování do jiného asopisu. Rozsah zaslaného píspvku nemá pesáhnout 25 stran (A4 formátu) vetn tabulek, obrázk, literatury, anglického a eského (slovenského) abstraktu a rozšíeného souhrnu. K rukopisu je teba piložit disketu s textem práce a s grafickou dokumentací poízenou na PC s uvedením použitého programu. K publikování jsou pijímány práce psané v anglitin. Autor odpovídá za správnost anglického textu. Rukopisy mají být napsány na papíe form átu A4. Uspoádání lánku musí odpovídat form, ve které jsou lánky publikovány. Je teba zaslat dv kopie rukopisu. O uveejnní práce rozhoduje redakní rada asopisu se zetelem k lektorským posudkm, vdeckému pínosu a celkové kvalit práce s pihlédnutím k významu lánku pro lesní hospodáství. Úprava textu Rukopis má obsahovat titulní stranu, na které je uveden název lánku, jméno autora (autor), název a adresa instituce, kde byla práce vypracována, íslo telefonu, faxu a e-mail autora, poveného korespondencí. Každý lánek musí obsahovat eský (slovenský) a anglický abstrakt, který nemá mít více než 90 slov, a klíová slova. Úvod by ml být struný, s uvedením zamení a cíle práce ve vztahu k dosud provedeným pracím. Neml by v nm být uvádn rozsáhlý pehled literatury. V kapitole Materiál a metody by ml být uveden popis použitých experimentálních metod tak, aby byl postaující pro zopakování pokus. Mly by být uvedeny obecné i vdecké názvy rostlin. Je-li zapotebí používat zkratky, je nutné pi prvním použití zkratky uvést i její plný název. Je nezbytn nutné používat jednotky odpovídající soustav mrových jednotek SI. V ásti Výsledky by mla být pesn a srozumiteln prezentována získaná data a údaje. V kapitole Diskuse se obvykle získané výsledky konfrontují s výsledky díve publikovanými. Je pípustné spojit ást Výsledky a Diskuse v jednu kapitolu. Citování literatury v textu se provádí uvedením jména autora a roku vydání publikace. Pi vtším potu autor se v textu uvádí pouze první z nich a za jeho jméno se doplní zkratka et al. V ásti Literatura se uvádjí pouze publikace citované v textu. Mla by sestávat z lektorovaných periodik. Citace se adí abecedn podle jména prvního autora: píjmení, zkratka jména, rok vydání, plný název práce, úední zkratka asopisu, roník, první a poslední strana. U knihy je uvedeno i místo vydání a vydavatel. Tabulky Tabulky,jsou íslovány prbžn a u každé je uveden i nadpis. Každá tabulka je napsána na jednom listu. Obrázky Jsou piloženy jen obrázky nezbytné pro dokumentaci výsledk a umožující pochopení textu. Souasné uvádní stejných výsledk v tabulkách a na grafech není pijatelné. Všechny obrázky musí být vysoce kvalitní, vhodné pro reprodukci. Nekvalitní obrázky nebudou pekreslovány, budou autorovi vráceny. Fotografie musí být dostaten kontrastní. Všechny obrázky je teba íslovat prbžn arabskými íslicemi. Jak grafy, tak i fotografie jsou oznaovány jako obrázky. U každého obrázku je nutné uvést jeho struný výstižný popis. Rukopis nebude redakcí pijat k evidenci, nebude-li po formální stránce odpovídat pokynm pro autory.
