These dramatizations of James Thurber’s fables may be

1. The Crow and the Oriole — A foolish crow
leaves his wife for an oriole who rejects him. So does
his wife. 2. The Shrike and the Chipmunk — An
artist chipmunk sleeps all day, thus avoiding the
shrike. But his early-rising partner brings doom.
3. The Very Proper Gander — A fine gander
becomes the victim of rumors of “propaganda” and
is run out of town. 4. The Foolhardy Mouse and
the Cautious Cat — A mouse is so bold the cat
thinks he’s a poisoned martyr and avoids him.
5. The Owl Who Was God — Because he is wise
and can see at night, the animals believe the owl is
God. They follow him to disaster. 6. The Truth
About Toads — When each animal boasts, the toad
claims to have an emerald in his head. But the
woodpecker finds nothing.
