Performance theatre at its best! Here’s a show where
charm, comedy and enchantment are one. Start with a
bare stage, a few props, snippets of costumes and soon
the actors’ and the audience’s imaginations are working
together to recreate a memorable classic. The actors
interpret the roles of cobras, monkeys, wolves, a
crocodile, a camel, an elephant and the wily mongoose,
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. A British family in old India is in
jeopardy from marauding cobras in league with Shere
Khan, the arrogant tiger. Only Rikki can save them and
he does so in a surprising way. The opportunities for
visual comedy and improvisation are endless.
A vigorous and delightful adaptation of Chaucer’s
literary masterpiece of the Middle Ages. Cleverly
conceived and cleverly done, this is a breezy collection of
tales about deceitful wives, philandering men, greedy
and murderous brothers, old crones and seductive
dancing girls. The staging is highly stylized and
physical, using the cast as props as well as actors. The
players become horses, streams, bridges, trees, wine
glasses and more. Seven tales are included: The
Wife of Bath’s Tale, The Franklin’s Tale, The
Miller’s Tale, The Reeve’s Tale, The Pardoner’s
Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and The Merchant’s
Two dramatizations on stage at the same time: the story
and troubles of the historic teenager Joan of Arc, and a
modern day teenager, Beth. Beth and her school partner
Michael have the assignment of writing a paper that tells
the life story of a famous woman. Their choice is Joan of
Arc, who in her teens led the armies of France against the
English and then was put on trial as a heretic. As the school
partners do their research, many historic scenes are
enacted on stage. Just as Joan of Arc is on trial, Beth is also
on trial by her father who disapproves of her activities and
friends. This unique staging of two trials is fascinating to
witness. An enjoyable play for a theatre group to perform.
A best-selling horror story novelist is stuck for an idea for
his next big thriller. For inspiration he rents a spooky house
in the deep woods. A theatre group sneaks into the cabin
without the owner’s permission. They want to use it as a
place to rehearse their production of Dracula. Things get
scary when the novelist finds himself in Transylvania with
Countess Dracula and many nutty vampire stalkers. They
all believe their spooks are make-believe until a real lady
ghost appears searching for her brother. The actors leave
in terror. Even the novelist wants to go but he won’t leave
until he learns how the in-house coffin keeps appearing
and disappearing. Excellent action and comedy for a large
cast. Only one set needed.
