During a 1993 survey of eightenIh+enNry civilian gun balerier on The Mount in Renews. Newfoundland evidence of areventmthrrntury oecupation was urnovered. Subsequent excavation of the site in thc summer of 1994 expored the foundrian and internal feaurer of uow-mm&mesU;C suucture and mMS than 34,033 utifacs. Many of these anifacts, including several tmlr associated with the fishery, were waeiared with the accupataon of the rite during the Unl quaner of the revententh cmury. Ceramics and other anifacls fmm Ihe Banstable and Bideford ma of namh Devmrhin in England's West Country d omid rtr asemhiage. Fifty ceramic veselr were identified fmm the pl rherds, ineluding many vessels associared with lhs storage. prepmtlon. presentation and consumption of fmd and drink.
