<strong>of</strong> fleur-des-lyr and the second depicting the "'chains <strong>of</strong> Navurs". Such heraldic devices<br />

indicates that the maker likely was French in origin, pmbably hom the southern pmvince<br />

<strong>of</strong> N rvm (Lamuse 1984:7299). Thc fact that a French-mads pwtcr gablet made its<br />

way into n Nonh kvon Bshenan's house is indicative <strong>of</strong> the tier <strong>be</strong>tween Nonh Devon<br />

and France. Desptte the frequent connicts hetween England and Francs, seventeenth-<br />

century English planten along he south Avalon ahen interacted with French firhemen<br />
