Shuttle Service to
Farmers Market
Supervisor Cathy Hudgins
(D-Hunter Mill) has announced
the establishment
of shuttle bus service to the
Wednesday morning farmers market
at Frying Pan Farm Park in
Herndon. The shuttle will pick up
from Southgate Community Center
(12125 Pinecrest Road in
Reston) and the Neighborhood
Resource Center (1086 Elden
Street, Herndon) to the farmers
market, and return.
Service is being provided by the
Fairfax County Department of
Neighborhood and Community
Services (NCS).
The farmers market at Frying
Pan Farm Park is open each
Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30
p.m., located at 2709 West Ox
Road in Herndon and site of the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP) pilot program.
SNAP beneficiaries can use their
SNAP card to receive tokens and
make purchases of locally grown,
seasonal foods and goods directly
from local farmers.
In addition, Inova Health Systems
will match up to the first $10
in purchases made at the farmers

market. Staff from Inova will be
at the market for program enrollment
and information.
Supervisor Hudgins said, “As
someone who grew up on a farm
and still grows tomatoes in my
backyard, I am pleased this collaboration
with the Fairfax County
Park Authority, NCS and Inova will
provide new opportunities to
stretch the family food budget
with fresh, locally grown food for
our most needy residents. This
shuttle service will enable resi-
dents with limited transportation
options to enjoy the offerings at
the farmers market.”

Ian Martin Becomes Eagle Scout
Ian Martin, recent
graduate of
Herndon High
School and entering
freshman who will
matriculate at Virginia
Technical Institute
in fall 2011, will
be honored in an
Eagle Scout Court of
Honor Ceremony on
Saturday, Aug. 6, at
12:30 p.m. in the
Reston Community
Center, 2310 Colts
Neck Road, in Reston.
Ian’s Eagle Scout
project was the restoration
of a walking
path and assembly of
a foot bridge near
Bright Pond Lane in
Reston. This project
was supported by the
Reston Association. In
Ian Martin
addition to erecting the bridge
over a stream along a walking
path, he and Troop 1970, along
with family and friends picked
up trash, removed invasive
plants, and placed mulch along
the path. Ian’s project has beautified
the area and is a valuable
contribution to the community.
He is the son of William (Bill)
Martin and Bernice Williams
Martin. The family resides in
Reston. Ian will attend college
in the fall, on a four-year Marine
Corps scholarship. He
plans to become a military officer.
Ian has received many
local honors.
