Each issue of Cornerstone in 2008 will feature a story focusing on a particular aspect of the chapter’s history. In this issue- the chapter’s early years are highlighted.) iana Trenkamp remembers her first meeting of caregivers and health care professionals at the University of Cincinnati in 1981. The focus of the meeting was Alzheimer’s disease. “There must have been more than 100 people in attendance…there were people lined out the door. It was obvious that there was a definite need for education in our community,” said Mrs. Trenkamp, who played a major role in the development of what eventually became the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati. Originally founded as a support group for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, the Cincinnati chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association was officially granted 501 c (3) status by the state of Ohio in 1983. But the chapter’s origins date back several years earlier when a small group of Alzheimer family caregivers, including chapter founders Elizabeth Bolles, Janet Trame, Anne Shapero and Erline Hawkins first began conducting group meetings for caregivers. When the group heard about the creation of the Alzheimer’s Association (then based in New York) in 1980, they applied for membership. The first chapter-sponsored family support group was formed in 1983 and met in a private home on the west side of Cincinnati. A quarterly newsletter, with an initial mailing list of about 200, was also distributed to interested member families and professionals. The chapter also offered caregiver support via the telephone – what would become known as “helpline.” “As board president, Betty (Bolles) conducted chapter business from her home and responded to many of the helpline calls herself,” said Mrs. Trenkamp who was hired in August, 1983 and served 20 years as chapter executive director. 2008 008 is a is significant a significant year
for us (as they all have been)
but this is more so because it is
the Alzheimer’s Association’s 25th
year as a non-profit organization
delivering family and educational
programming to those living with
Alzheimer’s disease and the other
dementias in Greater Cincinnati.
What started in 1983 as a support
By Clarissa Rentz group and evolved into a one
Executive Director woman show, in a one room
office, with one telephone and a
very small budget has now grown to a staff of 20 utilizing
sizable office space and many communication modalities,
with an annual budget that has grown to approximately
$1.4 million.
In terms of understanding the disease process, much
has changed as well. This past 25 years have seen
great advances in the understanding of the molecular,
biochemical and biological mechanisms associated with
the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease and the other
dementias. We have seen phenomenal growth in the
area of care; with an abundance of dementia facilities
and products geared toward the care of persons with
dementing illnesses. Unfortunately, this growth in care
services and products parallels the increase in the number
of affected individuals we are seeing in our communities
nationally and locally.
If we look at the most recent numbers released by
the National Alzheimer’s Association, by year 2050 we
anticipate that there will be approximately 120,000
affected individuals in our chapter territory. Indeed we are
facing an emerging epidemic while dealing with a slowing
economy. This impacts our families especially in the
areas of health care affordability, accessibility and for the
chapter, families’ philanthropic giving, which ultimately
affects our ability to fund our programs and services.
Over the past 25 years, through targeted core programs
for families and affected individuals, our chapter has
served thousands and thousands of individuals all for no
or a very limited fee for service. As a nurse who has dealt
with this disease on a professional and personal level for
close to 15 years, I wish I could say that the next 25 years
will be a different story and the Alzheimer’s Association
will not be in existence. However, this may not the case
so the Board and staff will need to think about how we
continue to serve our families and affected individuals
free of charge in difficult times with unexpected negative
turns in the economy.
Of course it is our hope to be freely accessible to families
and individuals affected by the dementing disorders but
this may not be possible without relying on the generosity
of our volunteers and supporters. Our volunteers are our
greatest hope for the future success of our organization.
We so strongly believe in this concept that we have
addressed the role and the importance of the volunteer in
strengthening our chapter’s capacity in our strategic plan
for FY 2009-2011. We acknowledge that we must look
to volunteers to augment our clinical and development
staff in the delivery of programs, services and volunteer
development functions. Presently we have nearly 300
volunteers who assist us in our advocacy, administrative
Mission Statement
The Alzheimer’s Association of
support, education, advocacy and
research on behalf of those affected
A Word About Us
A 25-Year Commitment to Caring
Various programs and services are funded in part by the
Ohio Department of Aging through the Council on Aging of
Southwestern Ohio and the Area Agency on Aging District 7.
and fundraising areas. They are capable and often speak
from the heart because they have experienced the disease
first hand and believe passionately in our cause. Wouldn’t
it be wonderful if we could bolster our volunteer base
to four times our current number so during those tough
times we can better serve our constituency and sustain
our vital programs and services? Then we can utilize the
passion and voice of the volunteer to help us carry the
load. These are our untapped philanthropists.
Honoring Those Who Give of Time and Talent
We try to honor the many volunteers and philanthropists
who have made our world at the Alzheimer’s Association
a better place. All are important to us but every year
we highlight one person who over the years has made
a difference, who gives freely and without need for
recognition or expectation of anything in return. On
May 3, at our Spring Benefit, the Alzheimer’s Association
will not only focus on our 25 years of commitment
and service to the community but will also honor
an individual who has had significant impact on our
organization. This year we have chosen not one person
but two; a devoted couple who are not only well known
to the Alzheimer’s Association but also to the arts and
health related communities. They are Ruthann and Dr.
Jim Sammarco. We at the Association are fortunate to
have them as long time supporters. Ruthann and Jim
have given often to the chapter, first through Ruthann’s
service as a board member and member of the executive
committee and Jim’s support of her work at the chapter.
Ruthann has been a constant and faithful board member,
always available to counsel and guide. Ruthann and Jim
have opened their home and wine cellar, hosted lovely
dinners prepared by nationally known chefs all to the
support and benefit of the association’s programs and
services. I invite you all to join us as the Alzheimer’s
Association is Broadway Bound to honor the Sammarcos
in style and with great appreciation.
As the executive director now for 16 months, I have
been privileged to meet and speak to many generous
individuals; volunteers who are there for us, during
rain and shine; people who continue to donate needed
dollars monthly or yearly on an ongoing basis because
they believe in our mission. They are our constant and
generous volunteer cheerleaders and supporters. Mr.
Carl Lindner, and many like him are providing a solid
foundation so that we can meet whatever demands face
us in the coming years. When I review what I have
written in these columns over the past 16 months, I note
a common theme; one of thanks but also constant appeals
for help. Please forgive me if I am repetitive but know that
I am doing so on behalf of those who repeat because they
have forgotten and who cannot coherently ask for help.
So here it is, if you have a skill and a need to help
others in some way, please call us and let us know your
preferences. We have a variety of job and tasks; answering
the phones, volunteering at events, helping with our
Memory Walks, assisting with administrative tasks, all
which help to keep our office running efficiently and
effectively. Without you we cannot meet the demands
of an emerging silent epidemic known as Alzheimer’s
disease.

Support Groups Create Common Bond
imilar needs. Similar experiences. Similar
emotions. When it comes to discussing
the many challenges and caregiving issues
surrounding Alzheimer’s disease, familiarity can
be a good thing.
For Roger and Carol Rosenthal, facilitators of an
Alzheimer’s Association Family Support Group in
Montgomery for the past 18 months, the experience
has been both personally beneficial and gratifying.
Having lost both of their mothers to Alzheimer’s
disease, the couple has experienced first-hand many of
the issues often discussed at the meetings.
“When my mother (Annette) had Alzheimer’s, my
sister and father attended a support group but I never
went,” said Mr. Rosenthal. “It wasn’t until Carol’s
mom (Eva) had Alzheimer’s that we started going to an
Alzheimer’s support group.”
Family Support Groups offer caregivers and family
members of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease an opportunity to meet
and share their personal experiences. The monthly meetings are conducted in
community settings that offer convenience for participants.
“One of the most important aspects of the support group experience is the
realization by participants that they are not alone. The fact that others are going
through the same things can be a real source of comfort,” said Chapter Program
Director Anne Von Hoene.
After attending a “When the Diagnosis is Alzheimer’s disease” series program,
the Rosenthals decided to attend the family support group in their area. After two
years of being group participants, they decided to take training to serve as FSG
facilitators. Their group meets the second Monday of each month at the Church
of the Savior, 8005 Pfeiffer Road.
The Rosenthals say the experience has been a very positive one.
“We always share our own stories to put the new people at ease,” said Mr.
Anniversary from page 1
Business was conducted from residences until 1984 when the chapter moved
into office space donated by Cincinnati Area Senior Services (CASS) at the Holiday
Office Park in Queensgate - the site of the current Cincinnati office. CASS provided
the fledgling chapter with a desk and one telephone line for helpline.
“When they (CASS) moved to the 10th floor, the chapter moved into a small
office. By then we began attracting professionals who were assisting us with the
support groups,” said Mrs. Trenkamp, who conducted the day-to-day administration
of the chapter for 20 hours a week - $5 an hour.
During its first year, the chapter had an operational budget of $35,000 - with the
majority of funding coming from memorial donations and paid memberships from
families. The chapter’s first organized “fundraiser” was a treasure chest raffle. Items
were collected for inclusion in a treasure chest and raffle tickets sold for a winner take
all. The raffle raised about $2,000.
In Your Community
Support groups are small discussion groups designed for caregivers, family
members and friends of people with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
These groups provide participants with an opportunity to discuss caregiving
challenges and share helpful tips, while receiving support and understanding
from others in similar situations.
All of the Greater Cincinnati Chapter’s affiliated support groups meet once
Within months, however,
donors from various sources
began taking a much more
active role in supporting the
chapter.
In 1983, The Greater
Cincinnati Foundation awarded
the first (about $2,000) of
many grants to the Alzheimer’s
Association of Cincinnati to
services.
“The Foundation gift
was a sign that we were being
recognized for our mission and
our work,” said Mrs. Trenkamp.
“It was very important to our
credibility.”
From left, the late Betty Bolles, Anne Shapero and
With the support of Bill Templin, Ameristop was the first corporate sponsor of
the local Memory Walk. The chapter’s first walk in 1989 raised about $23,000. In
addition, Chi Omega Sorority began conducting a black-tie fundraiser that would
eventually develop into the annual Spring Benefit. During this period, the chapter
also received its first major foundation gift – a three-year grant totaling $75,000 from
the Corbett Foundation.
The increased financial support enabled the chapter to hire full-time professional
In 1989, Jane Spille, a psychiatric nurse, was hired as the chapter’s first program
Making A Connection
With Minority Community
ecent studies indicate that African-Americans
appear to be at greater risk for developing
dementia-type diseases due to genetic and
environmental risk factors such as cardiovascular
disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, obesity
and diabetes.
A similar correlation between health risk factors
and dementia in the Hispanic/Latino population is also
being found in many new studies. This is particularly
alarming given the fact that Hispanic/Latinos are the
fasting growing minority population in the United
States. Recent reports also indicate that strokes may be a contributing factor
for developing Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses within the
African-American community.
Currently, the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association
and the American Stroke Association are partnering to create greater public
awareness about the connection between cardiovascular risks and brain health.
Cardiovascular diseases are prevalent within many minority populations which
can put many African-Americans, Hispanic/Latinos and other minorities at
risk for developing vascular related dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Celebrating 25 years of service, the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater
Cincinnati is here to help and provide hope to those dealing with dementia.
We offer a variety of programs and services targeting many phases of the care
giving journey. April is Minority Health Month and it is important to not only
recognize but to target health care needs of the minority community. A number
of our chapter programs specifically address the needs and concerns of African-
Americans and Hispanic/Latinos, such as our African-American Caregiver
Forum and our community Promotora de Salud education program.
We also provide early educational intervention in the elementary, middle
and high schools through health education. Alzheimer’s disease does not
discriminate between the rich and the poor, the well educated and the
uneducated, or African American, Hispanic/Latino and White. The Alzheimer’s
Association is here to provide education, help and hope to all – let’s make the
connection!
Please mark your calendar – the 2008 African-American Family Caregiver
Forum will be held on Friday, Oct. 31. Further details on the forum will be
announced later this summer.
Cincinnati Chapter Unveils
New Web Site
he Alzheimer’s Association
of Greater Cincinnati has a
Web site with a new look
and a new address.
The updated Web site was
unveiled in January with a new
address: www.alz.org/cincinnati. The
site features complete information
on local programs and services as
well as special events.
“For a growing segment of the
public, the Internet is becoming a
primary source of information on
Alzheimer’s disease,” said Steve Olding, Chapter Communications director.
“Usage of our chapter Web site, for example, has doubled in the past three years
while calls to our Helpline have stayed about the same in number. More people
are coming to us for information, but a growing percentage of people are using
a different method to obtain information from us.”
During the past fiscal year, the chapter site recorded more than 1.4 million
hits from 30,000 individual users.
A
Alzhemed Clinical Trial
Results Disappointing
fter consulting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on
revising its statistical model, Neurochem has completed its statistical
analysis and released the results of the company’s first Phase III clinical
trial of Tramiprosate (Alzhemed) which was held in the United States
and Canada.
While the trials found numerical differences between people taking the
drug and those taking a placebo, the results, both on cognitive functioning and
daily activities, did not reach statistical significance.
The trial results highlight the important need for more volunteers to
participate in Alzheimer’s clinical studies. Recruiting and retaining study
participants is one of the greatest impediments to developing the next
generation of Alzheimer treatments.
“She knows Northern Kentucky well and understands our mission
of service.”
As an adult learner, Ms. Drews earned a degree in Social Work
from Northern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in Social
Work from the University of Kentucky. A certified social worker in
Kentucky, she has a personal connection to dementia. Last year, her
mother, Agnes, was diagnosed with dementia.
“I am honored to join the Alzheimer’s Association and look
forward to helping families in Northern Kentucky,” said Ms. Drews.
“I know that there is a great need in Northern Kentucky for many
families and I hope to be a source of support for them.”
Ms. Drews has two children, Deanna and Debbie, and three
Join Celebrities As
Alzheimer’s Champion
oday, an estimated 5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s
disease, and by 2050, there will be almost a million new cases a year — unless
we do something about it now.
That’s why celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and sports, including
Penny Marshall, Garry Marshall, Ronny Marshall, Molly Sims, Wayne Brady and
Leeza Gibbons, have lent their faces and voices to help the Alzheimer’s Association
challenge 5 million Americans – one for every person with the disease – to learn about
Alzheimer’s and become an Alzheimer’s Champion.
The celebrity Champions are highlighted in a series of compelling photographs
that will be exhibited across the country. In addition, national television, print and
radio advertising aims to dispel public misperceptions and move people to take action
in the fight against Alzheimer’s in the following ways:
• ACT now to end Alzheimer’s – learn about the disease and get involved in the fight.
• VOICE your support – become an advocate, help spread the word about the disease
and tell your story.
• MOVE the Alzheimer’s Association’s cause forward – join a Memory Walk or
volunteer at a local chapter.
• OPEN your mind – learn the facts about Alzheimer’s and donate to the
Association.
Chapter Honors Volunteers For Service
T
he Alzheimer’s Association of Greater
Cincinnati thanked its supporters while
honoring three individuals with special
awards of recognition at the 2007 Chapter
Leadership Luncheon at the Kenwood Country
Club in November.
An audience of nearly 120 volunteers, donors
and sponsors enjoyed a luncheon and awards
program recognizing the many contributions
made by supporters to the Greater Cincinnati
Chapter during the past year. Approximately
325 volunteers contributed more than 4,500
hours of service to the Greater Cincinnati
Chapter during the past year.
“The generous donation of time, effort and
treasure from all our volunteers, donors and
sponsors enables our chapter to better serve
the thousands of families in the Tri-state area
who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease,” said
Executive Director Clarissa Rentz. “We are
truly grateful for their generous support.”
Mary Ann Jacobs, Esq., received the
Presidents Award - the chapter’s highest honor
- for her exemplary service to the Greater
Cincinnati Chapter. Ms. Jacobs, an attorney
with Ritter & Randolph, LLC, current serves as
president of the chapter’s board of directors.
“Mary Ann has been a true friend to our
chapter and instrumental in helping our chapter
grow,” said Ms. Rentz, who presented the
award to Ms. Jacobs. “Her leadership and legal
expertise has been a tremendous help to me
personally.”
In addition to her long-time service to the
board, Ms. Jacobs has served on the chapter’s
governance and executive committees and has
The Greater Cincinnati Chapter also honored Curtis
Sellers and Steve Schumacher for their outstanding
contributions to the chapter.
Mr. Sellers, president and CEO of Curtis Inc. Visual
Communications, was presented the John Horn “Roll
Up Your Sleeves” Memorial Award for his support of
the production of a chapter video. The 10-minute video
featured interviews with family caregivers regarding
their personal stories about Alzheimer’s disease and the
support their families received through the programs
and services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association
of Greater Cincinnati.
“For years we wanted to create a video that would
tell our story in a personal and effective manner, but we
didn’t have the money to do it. When we approached
Curt with the idea, he not only agreed to donate his
firm’s services, but they went that extra mile in creating
a truly special video,” said Communications Director
Steve Olding, who presented the award.
Steve Schumacher of Cincinnati was presented the
Elizabeth Bolles Outstanding Service Award for his
long-time support of the chapter’s Memory Walk as
well as his countless hours of work on various chapter
events.
“Steve is a great example of what every volunteer
should be,” said Ms. Rentz. “I don’t think anyone has
contributed more volunteer hours over the past decade
than Steve and he has done it all in a quiet manner
without much fanfare.”
Memory Walk 2008
We're On the MOVE to End Alzheimer’s
T
he statistics are truly sobering. An estimated 5.1
million Americans affected…the seventh leading
cause of death in the United States…a new case
every 71 seconds…a $148 billion annual cost. The latest
figures regarding Alzheimer’s disease and its impact on the
United States bring a heightened sense of urgency to do
something about this growing epidemic.
But for many who participate in Memory Walk, the
statistics are overshadowed by more personal reasons to be
involved in the event.
“Participating in Memory Walk has become a family
tradition,” said Ben Koenig, a top fundraiser who lost his
wife of 53 years, Ruth, last year to Alzheimer’s disease.
“The Alzheimer’s Association has been a source of great
support and information for our family and we’re happy
to be able to give back with the donations we solicit for
the walk.”
Serving as the primary national fundraiser for the
Alzheimer’s Association, Memory Walk is an annual
event that brings those affected by Alzheimer’s disease,
family members and community together in a show of
love, remembrance and support. Proceeds from the walks
directly benefit local programs and services as well as
support of Alzheimer research efforts.
Last year, an estimated 3,600 walkers participated in
the Greater Cincinnati Chapter’s five Memory Walks,
raising a record total of $325,000.
hether it affects a neighbor who quietly fades
behind the upstairs curtains, a relative who
no longer comes to visit during the holidays,
or a former president, the effects of Alzheimer’s disease
are drawing closer to each of us every day. We must be
the last generation to face this disease without hope.”
Maureen Reagan
When the daughter of former President Ronald
Reagan spoke those words in 1999, there was growing
momentum in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
Heightened public awareness of the disease was helping eliminate false perceptions
that it was “just old age.” At the same time, government leaders took notice of studies
forecasting an alarming increase in the number of those affected by Alzheimer’s
as well as the enormous future economic impact the disease would have on the
country’s health care system and business community.
During the decade of the ‘90s, annual federal funding of Alzheimer research
increased more than 250 percent (to $400 million by 1999).
Prompted by the concerted efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association and its advocates,
as well as encouraging developments in Alzheimer research, Congress further
increased funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to nearly
$660 million per year in 2003. In addition, federal funding supported a variety of
important Association programs, including Safe Return © “
and a national 24-hour
In recent years, however, momentum in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease
has slowed dramatically. Pressures on the federal budget caused by a growing deficit
and struggling economy, coupled with large commitments to the war in Iraq
and homeland security, have affected Alzheimer research efforts. Over the past five
Are We Losing The Fight Against Alzheimer’s Disease?
Ramsey Places Sharp Focus On Chapter Events
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati
is fortunate to have hundreds of generous
volunteers serving in various capacities throughout
the year. Although we cannot possibly spotlight
every volunteer in Cornerstone, we appreciate
their valuable support and service. In this
issue, we feature Shad Ramsey.
Shad Ramsey describes the last five years
as among the happiest in his life. And he says
his volunteer work with the Alzheimer’s Association
has played an instrumental role in pro-
Shad Ramsey
moting that happiness.
Despite a challenging professional schedule that includes operating his own photography
business, Ramsey Photography, he has served the Greater Cincinnati Chapter
in numerous ways.
In addition to utilizing his photography skills at various chapter events, he has
served on the planning committees for the chapter’s Memory Walk and Spring Benefit.
“Shad has been a wonderful friend to the Association and has played a very important
role in our fundraising efforts,” said Chapter Development Director Brigid
Mercer. “Shad is simply a great person to have in your corner.”
A native of San Diego, Mr. Ramsey was the oldest of four children in a military
family (his father, Don, served in the U.S. Navy). The family moved frequently until
settling in Dayton, Ohio.
“Mom was a good military wife and raised four neat kids. She was like Phyllis
Diller…she was always very funny,” he said.
Mr. Ramsey lost his mother, Jean, to Early-Onset Alzheimer’s disease in 1998. The
experience of “slowly losing her” had a profound impact.
“In 1980, she was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s when she was only 55
years old,” he said. “Mom and dad moved to the Fort Worth (Texas) area where the
rest of my siblings were living. I was living in Dayton at the time so I dealt with things
from a distance. It was difficult.”
An Alzheimer’s Association support group in Dayton helped him cope but it was
a photography assignment at a nursing home that provided a life-changing experience
and an eventual move to the Cincinnati area.
“I was asked by a family to take a picture at their grandmother’s 85th birthday party,
which happened to be in an assisted living unit. I was so struck by the improvement in
years, funding for Alzheimer research has actually declined. The shrinking pool
of funding is creating a “brain drain” in Alzheimer research as a growing number
of researchers begin to focus on other diseases.
When President Bush unveiled his FY2009 budget proposal in February,
it painted a bleak picture for the current and future generations of Americans
who face Alzheimer’s disease. The President’s budget proposal included cuts to
all Alzheimer programs, including reductions to Alzheimer research through
the NIH.
As our nation continues the process of selecting presidential candidates
and ultimately elects a new president in November, it is encouraging to note
that health care has been a prominent campaign issue. We can only hope that
the current rhetoric will translate into substantial and effective policy changes
under a new administration.
In addition to the mental and physical toll on affected individuals and
their caregivers, Alzheimer's disease currently costs the United States more than
$100 billion a year in health care costs and lost worker productivity. It also
threatens to overwhelm our nation’s health care system and bankrupt Medicare
and Medicaid, if research fails to find the answers that will prevent the current
5.1 million Americans with Alzheimer's disease from growing to a projected
14-16 million by 2050.
This year’s Alzheimer’s Association Public Policy Forum will be held May
12-14 in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of advocates from across the nation will
march on Capitol Hill to speak on behalf of the millions affected by Alzheimer’s
disease. Even if you can’t attend the forum, you can still play an important
role through letters, phone calls and emails to your federal legislators.
Alzheimer’s disease is a critical threat to a growing segment of our nation’s
population as well as to our nation’s health care system. Today, more than ever,
your help as an advocate is needed. For more on the Alzheimer’s Association or
In 2003, he took his photography work to part-time and joined Sunrise Senior
Living to assist with marketing. His work at Sunrise brought him in contact with
families confronting many of the same issues that he had experienced in his own
family.
“My work at Sunrise and Right at Home and my volunteer work at the Alzheimer’s
Association have really helped me grow as a person. I think I am the better for it,
said Mr. Ramsey, who now resides in Southgate, Ky. with his wife, Wendy.
Former First Couple of
Kentucky Join Advocates
Former Kentucky first lady and Miss America Phyllis George joined more than
100 advocates from across Kentucky for the second annual Kentucky Alzheimer’s
Advocacy Day in Frankfort on Jan. 30. Advocates met with their legislators to
discuss their concerns.
Serving as emcee of an afternoon program in the state capitol rotunda, Ms.
George spoke about the loss of her mother to Alzheimer’s disease in 2004. She
later welcomed her former husband, former Kentucky Gov. John Y. Brown, who
spoke briefly to the audience (pictured together).
Representatives of the Kentucky Alzheimer’s Advisory Council later presented
a report on Alzheimer’s disease, along with a list of recommendations, to state
officials and policy makers. State officials are expected to use the report as a
guideline for adopting new policies to confront the growing prevalence of
Alzheimer’s disease in Kentucky and its impact on the state’s health care system.
