. Editor. Sentinel-Ledger; This of real silk and*
' letter is in response to one
printed in the April 7 edition in
reference to . a golf driving
range.
In as few words as possible. I
hasten" to question the
credibility of the author of the
aforementioned letter as she
rambled through a myriad, of
projects and programs that
would be funded by monies
designated for a golf driving
range. I can't imagine the
author really .believes that
these same monies could
support programs which could
easily amount to hundreds of
thousands of dollars.
I am not totally, uninformed
of the intelligent planning and
studies that backed a decision
by the commissioners to invest
in a golf driving range. The
amount invested is a one-time
cost and the projection of
estimated revenues will
probably return the total expenditures
before the end of the
second season's operation.
Thus, during each of the succeeding
years thousands of
dollars would be realized -that
could be diverted 'to many
sensible projects, or hopefully,
to reduce our city tax burdens.
We need a driving range in
our fast growing resort city and
many golfers, young and old.
male and female, are looking .
forward to the early opening of
the facility with great anticipation.
No longer will I need
to drive 25 to 30 miles, round
trip, to the nearest driving
range using up more gasoline
than I'm comfortable about.
And lastly, and perhaps most
importantly, the driving range
along with our vastly improved
golf course, constitutes a major
added attraction to our
vacationers. That fact, coupled
with the payoff factor, makes it
imperative that we open this
facility at the earliest possible
date.
