Stainton honored by Chamber
'Crown Prince* named
'Mr. Ocean City'
Long-recognized as the
"Crown Prince" of this resort,
Howard S. Stainton was given
official recognition by the
business community as "Mr.
Ocean City" Saturday night at
a Chamber of Commerce
dinner-dance held in his honor.
"It seems safe to say that no
man has had more influence on
nor done more for the City and
people of Ocean City in the last
100 years than has Howard
Smith Stainton," said Chamber
President Jack Blttner. "He
has every right to the title Mr.
Ocean City."
Over 200 Stainton admirers
attended the gala event held at
the Flanders Hotel. Included on
the list of speakers with Bittner
were U. S. Rep. William J.

wine to be served would be
Frascati. This is a white wine
produced in Latium, the Roman
province facing on the
Tyrhennian Sea. In the days of
Horace, poetry was written of
Tusculum, now called Frascati,
and of the fine wines from his
vineyards. The ancient Romans at this time built their
countryside homes on the Latium hills adjacent to Rome
and the wines produced on the estates of these nobles was
called Vini dei Castelli Romani. As mentioned, Frascati is a
direct lineal descendant of these ancient wines, and can be
found in varying degrees of excellence.
In the northern area of Latium, near the ancient town of
Montefiascone on Lake Bolsena, close by the Basilica of St.
Flaviano may be found a very old tomb bearing the
following inscription: "Est, Est, Est, et propter nimium
est, Johannes De Fuger, dominus meus, mortuus est." The
translation: "it is, it is, it is, and though too much it is^my
master Johannes De Fuger. dead is." This factual story
involves a German bishop named Fuger who four or five
centuries ago was on his way to Rome. He sent his valet
ahead with instructions to write the Latin word Est (it is) on
the wall of the inn where the food and especially the winewere
superior At the inn in Montefiascone, the dutiful valet
was so enraptured of the wine he wrote the immortal
testimonial Est! Est! Est The bishop found his servant's
evaluation of the wine completely true and is reported to
have tarried so long and drank so freely that he died in
Montefiascone, without ever reaching the Holy City
Modern day Montefiascone wine, is dry or semi dry, and
golden hued in color, with a bouquet both elegant and
fruity it is called Moscatelo
And to think that once the only environmental problem
we had was that money didn't grow on trees •
