The 437 Maintenance and Storage Facility (43T MASF) was intended to begin
waste management operations in 1989 that included the maintenance and repair
of equipment used in the Fast Flux Test Facility. The 437 MASF also was to be
used to treat dangerous and/or mixed waste (T01) by removing residual sodium
from waste materials. The process was to be conducted by placing sodium
contaminated material in a tank and reacting surface sodium residues with
water.
The 437 MASF never managed dangerous and/or mixed waste and a procedural
closure is being pursued for this unit. The maximum process design capacity
for tank treatment was to be 20 liters (5.3 gallons) per day.
N. DESCRIPTION OF DANGEROUS WASTES
A. DANGEROUS WASTE NUMBER- Enter t he four diyk number train
C. UNIT OF MEASURE • For each quantity e ntered In column B e nter the un it of measure code. Un its of measure whi ch must be used and the app ropriate codes
If fa cility re cords use any other unit of measure for quantity, the un it s of me asure must be convertad Into one of the. rogWrad units of measure taking Into account the
app rop riate density or specific gravity of the waste.
D. PROCESSES
1. PROCESS CODES:
For fisted donpemut wane: For each lined dangamus wane emoted In column A aelset the code(,) from the li st of process co des co ntained In Section III to
Indicate how the wane w il
l be stated, t re ated, and/or dispo sed of at the facil ity.
For non lined dangerous wa stes: For each characte ris ti c ortaxle contaminant ente re d In Column A, select the eode(al from the get bf p ro ce ss code, contained in
Section III to Indicate all the p rocesses that will be u sed to atom, treat, and/or dispo se .of all the nenHisted dange ro us wastes that possess that characte ristic or
toxic contaminant.
Note: four ,paces as provided for ente ring protons codes. If more are n eeded: (1) Enter the first three as d esc ri bed above; (2) Enter -000' in the extreme ri ght
box of hem IV •D01: and 131 Enter in the space provided on paps 4, the lino number and the add itional codets).
2. PROCESS DESCRIPTION: If a code is not limit for a p rocess that will be used, describe the pmcoss in the spa ce p rovided on the tam.
NOTE DANGEROUS WASTES DESCRIBED BY MORE THAN ONE DANGEROUS WASTE NUMBER - Dange rous wastes that can be desc ribed by man than one Waste
Number
dea ctibed on the tone as follows:
1. Select one of the Dangerous Waste Numbers and enter it In column A. On the same line complete column, B. C, and D by es timating the total annual quant ity of
the waste and desc ribing all the p rocesses to be used to treat, store, and/or dispose of t he waste.
2. In co lumn A of the next One enter the other Dang erous Waste Numb er that can be used to desc ribe the waste. In co lumn D(2) an that line enter 'included with
above' and make no other ent ries on that Una.
3. Repeat st ep 2 for ea ch other Dange ro us Wa st e Number that can be used to describe the dange rous waste.
EXAMPLE FOR COMPLETING SECTION N !shown in fine numbers X-1, X-2, X-$ and X-4 below) . A fac il
ity will treat and dir^crio of an estimated 900 pounds per year
of chrome shavings f ro m le ather tanning and finishing operation. In addition, the facil ity will tr eat and diepo0 of three non•fiated wastes. Two wastes era corrosive
