IV. DESCRIPTION OF DANGEROUS WASTES lcominued)
E. USE THIS SPACE TO LIST A 00 If1ONAL PROCESS CODES FROM SECTION DIt) ON PAGE 3.
The following provides Informat ion concerning the types of waste that were stated at the 303-K:
Approximately 8,804 kilagrarns (15,000 pound$) per year of spent solvents - (This included spent degrearing solvents (FOO1,
WPO1, and WTOi) that were occasionally mixed with e thyl acetate (D001, F003, and WT02). This also Included spent
halogenated and nanhalogensted solvents (FO02 and FOOS). Waste so lvents were corrosive (DO02) and contained cadmium
(0006), 1,1-dichtoroethylene 10039), and trlchloroothylens (DO40)).
Approximately 39,288 kilograms (80,000 pounds) per year of heat treated salts contaminated with naturally occurring radioactive
potassium-40 - (The heat treatad salts wars generated from both bat. bath 18,165 kilograms (18,000 pounds) par year) and
quench bath - 18,185 k gagrams (18,000 pounds) Vyer year). The beta bath smite consisted of potassium nitrate, sodium n itrate,
.odlum nitrite, potassium chloride, and sodium chorde. The quench bath salts war n, considered toxic, extremel y hazardous waste
(WTOU and were considered Ignitable (D001) because of the presence of oxid izers (sold nitrate$ and nitrites). The quench bath
salts also contained badum (D 05), cadmium (DODO), chromium (DO07), and could have been considered toxic, dangerous waste
(WT02).
3. Approximately 771 ki lograms (1,700 pounds) of Co rrosive W002) copper fivarozirconate acid c rystals from the bottom of the
waste acid tanks in the 334-A Building.
4. App ro ximately 2,313 kilograms ( 5,100 pounds) per year of Zirealoy-2 and befyliumZrealoy-2 chips and fines before and after
concrating the waste in the 304 Bui lding - [This material designated as ig nitable (DOOI) be ca use of the pyrcphoric proper ties,).
6. Approximately 2,494 kilograms (5,500 pounds) per y ear of metallic lead (DOOB).
S. Approximately 138,078 kilograms 1300,000 pounds) pper y ear of centrifuge and Bit er press sludge de signated as toxic, dangerous
waste (W702) by the nJxture rule and Ignitab le (D001) because of the presenos of solid nitrates - IThs wave alto could have
contained the fallowing chemical constituents Introduced Into the 300 Area Waste Add Treatment System: arse nic (DO04), barium
(DODS), ca dmium (DODO), chromium (DO07), mercu ry (DOGS), and silver (0011)1.
7. Approximate ly 880 k il ograms (1,500ounds) per year of co rrosive (D002) waste add absorbed by sedimenta ry opal clay - [This
waste also co ntained chromium (DOAL
8. Approximately 27 kilograms (80 pounds) par year of waste adds co ntaminated with oil - IThs waste acids were designated as
co rrosive (DO02) and contained arseni c, (DO04), chromium ID007), and s li ver (00011)1•
9. Approximately 91 kilograms (200 pounds) per year of waste hydraulic o8 that conta ined halogenated hydroc ar bons (WP021•
10. Approximate ly 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of a mixed waste that co ntained pentachiorophenal (D037).
